Saturday Night Live is a weekly NBC late-night comedy show that normally airs Saturdays at 11:30 p.m. Eastern Time, with episodes also available through Peacock. Each episode generally combines the regular cast with a celebrity host, a musical guest, live sketches, pre-taped pieces and musical performances. Because the cast and booking calendar change, the official NBC and Peacock listings are the reliable places to confirm the current episode.
This guide reflects information available on October 13, 2026, during Season 52. It explains what the recurring format means, how to interpret cast announcements, where to check hosts and musical guests, how live and recorded elements fit together, and where NBC directs viewers seeking tickets.
What is Saturday Night Live?
Saturday Night Live (SNL) is NBC’s weekly late-night comedy showcase. The regular broadcast slot listed by NBC is Saturday at 11:30 p.m. ET. The program is built around the show’s ensemble cast, a guest host and a musical guest, with the episode moving among comedy sketches, pre-taped segments and musical performances.
Season 52 is the current season as of October 13, 2026. NBCUniversal announced a September 26, 2026 premiere. That date identifies the start of the season, not a permanent schedule for every later episode; individual hosts, musical guests and episode details are posted in the live listings.

What happens in a typical episode?
The host
The host is the week’s featured presenter and appears with the cast in sketches. Hosting is a recurring role in the format, but the official program description does not establish how much responsibility a particular host has for writing, rehearsal or other behind-the-scenes work. Treat the host as the featured on-screen guest rather than assuming a specific production job.
The musical guest
The musical guest supplies the episode’s musical performance. This is a separate recurring category from the host, although an episode can make unusual choices or include additional appearances. A listing that names a host and a musical guest is identifying two different roles, not two descriptions of the same performer.
The cast
The resident cast performs the live sketches and other comedy material alongside the host. The full ensemble can change during a season, so an old cast list should not be treated as a current one. Use Peacock’s current cast page when you need the active roster.
Live sketches and pre-tapes
Peacock describes the show as bringing together live sketches, pre-taped segments and musical performances. “Live” therefore describes an important part of the broadcast, while “pre-taped” identifies pieces recorded before the episode airs. The presence of a recorded segment does not turn the entire program into an on-demand-only production; the regular show is still presented in its Saturday-night broadcast slot.

Is SNL live?
SNL includes live sketches and is scheduled as a live Saturday-night broadcast on NBC’s regular listing. It also includes pre-taped comedy segments, which were recorded before the broadcast. The most accurate short answer is: the episode is broadcast live in its regular slot, but not every segment is performed live at that moment.
That distinction matters when you see a clip online or watch a replay. A musical performance or sketch may appear inside the same episode even though it was recorded earlier. Peacock’s description supports this mixed format; it does not provide a detailed account of the production workflow, rehearsal schedule or recording facilities.
Who is leaving SNL in Season 52?
Peacock’s cast listing identifies Chloe Fineman and Bowen Yang as not returning for Season 52. Those are confirmed non-returning cast members in the information available on October 13, 2026.
That statement should not be expanded into a claim that they are the only departures. The available announcements do not establish a complete list of every person who may have left, changed status or appeared in another capacity. For a complete current ensemble, consult the live official cast page rather than relying on a season-preview article or a cached roster.

NBCUniversal announced two new cast members before Season 52. That announcement establishes that there were two additions, while the current information here does not provide their names. It also does not establish that those additions constitute the entire Season 52 roster or that no later changes occurred.
When a reader asks “Who is joining SNL?”, the safest workflow is to compare the NBCUniversal announcement with Peacock’s current cast page. The announcement supplies the initial season news; the live cast listing is the better reference for membership after later updates. Check the spelling and status shown there before publishing or sharing a name.
Who is hosting SNL this week?
Host bookings are date-specific and can change, so check Peacock’s current episode listing immediately before watching or publishing a schedule. The Season 52 premiere listing names Jalen Brunson as host. The October 3 episode listing names Dakota Johnson as host. These are dated examples from the season, not a promise that either person hosts a later episode.
An episode page is more useful than a general search result because it can pair the host with the exact air date and musical guest. If two listings appear to conflict, use the most recent official episode information and note the date you checked.

Who is the musical guest?
The musical guest is identified in the episode listing separately from the host. Because bookings are announced and updated on a rolling basis, the current Peacock episode page is the authoritative place among the sources covered here to see who is scheduled for a particular date.
Do not infer a musical guest from a host announcement, a social-media post or an older episode archive. The recurring format allows for a host and a musical guest, but the listing for the specific episode is what establishes the pairing. Additional appearances may occur, so the listing should be read as the confirmed headline information rather than a guarantee that no other performer will appear.
What time does SNL come on?
NBC lists the regular start time as 11:30 p.m. ET on Saturdays. That is the schedule reference supplied for the show. Local broadcast arrangements, late-night scheduling changes and streaming availability can affect how an individual viewer receives the program, so check the NBC listing for the date you intend to watch.
The time is expressed in Eastern Time. Do not convert it into another time zone without checking your local NBC affiliate or current listing, particularly on nights when a network schedule changes.

Where can you watch SNL?
The official sources identify two viewing destinations: NBC’s broadcast presentation and Peacock’s streaming listing. They do not establish plan prices, geographic eligibility or account requirements, so those details should be verified separately for your location and account.
| Option | What the official listing establishes | Use it when |
|---|---|---|
| NBC | SNL is listed for Saturdays at 11:30 p.m. ET, with episode information and an archive of show material. | You want the scheduled network broadcast. |
| Peacock | The service lists SNL episodes, describes the show’s format and maintains current program and cast information. | You need the current episode lineup or a streaming route. |
Availability can change by location, date or account. NBC’s show page and Peacock’s current program page should be checked rather than treating an old schedule as permanent.
How do you get tickets to SNL?
NBC Help Center directs ticket seekers to NBC’s official tickets and studio-tour resource for SNL ticket information. The help page says its digital support team cannot provide live-taping or tour assistance. In practical terms, start with the linked official ticket resource instead of asking general NBC support to confirm a seat.
The available information does not establish current ticket-release timing, eligibility rules, inventory, standby procedures or age requirements. Do not present any of those as guaranteed. Ticket availability can be limited and can change, so rely on the official ticket page for the conditions in effect when you apply.

- Identify the date. Write down the episode date or the Saturday you plan to watch; “this week” is not precise enough when listings change.
- Check Peacock’s episode listing. Confirm the host, musical guest and episode information shown for that date.
- Check the current cast page. Use it for membership questions instead of an older season article.
- Check NBC’s show page. Confirm the network slot and whether the episode is presented through NBC’s current viewing options.
- Check again before publication or viewing. Host bookings, cast status and access information are volatile; the date of your check matters.
What Season 52 facts are confirmed as of October 13, 2026?
- Season 52 premiered on September 26, 2026, according to an NBCUniversal announcement.
- NBC’s regular listing places the show on Saturdays at 11:30 p.m. ET.
- Peacock describes a recurring mix of celebrity hosts, musical guests, live sketches, pre-taped segments and musical performances.
- Peacock’s cast listing says Chloe Fineman and Bowen Yang are not returning.

- The Season 52 premiere listing names Jalen Brunson as host, and the October 3 listing names Dakota Johnson as host.

These points are time-bound. A later cast page or episode listing may supersede them, which is why current official pages should take priority over this dated snapshot.
