Wayne Carey discussed the 2007 Miami incident involving Kate Neilson on SAS Australia in February 2022, describing himself as throwing wine and saying the glass touched her lip. Neilson disputed that account in interviews reported at the time, saying she was injured and bleeding. The available reporting presents two different accounts; it does not independently establish exactly how the glass contacted her or whether Carey intended to break it.
What Carey said on SAS Australia
In a segment reported on February 22, 2022, Carey spoke about the Miami incident, which took place in 2007. He said he leaned over to throw wine and that the glass touched Neilson’s lip. As 7NEWS reported, Carey described the headlines as saying he had “glassed” her, and said: “Of course, throwing wine on a girlfriend is unacceptable, completely unacceptable.” He characterized the episode as a major regret.
That was Carey’s account of the contact and his acknowledgment that throwing wine was unacceptable; it does not establish Neilson’s experience or settle how the glass made contact.
Neilson’s response and account
In interviews reported on February 22 and 23, 2022, Neilson disputed Carey’s description. She said a wine glass was smashed into her face, that she was injured and bleeding, and that Carey left the scene. These are Neilson’s claims as reported by PerthNow; they are not independently established by the reporting cited here.

Neilson also spoke about moving on, telling PerthNow: “I’m more empowered. I can actually say that I’ve moved on from it.” Her statement about moving forward does not resolve the factual disagreement over the incident.

What the reports say about legal outcomes
PerthNow reported that Neilson did not press charges against Carey and that Carey was convicted of offences against a police officer. The report is secondary coverage, not a primary court record. It does not provide a basis here for adding charge names, sentence details, or legal interpretations. The reported conviction should not be confused with a court finding about the disputed glassing account.
