Some followers criticized Sarah Stevenson, the Australian influencer known as Sarah’s Day, after a joke about her son’s curried-egg school lunch. PerthNow reported on 15 November 2023 that critics called the remark “borderline racist,” while other followers defended her. The report records a dispute, not a formal finding that the comment was racist.
What Sarah Stevenson said about the lunch
In an Instagram video, Stevenson asked her son: “Do you want to be labelled ‘smelly curried egg boy’?” PerthNow described the exchange as a joke about a curried-egg sandwich he was taking to school. The report does not provide a complete record of the original post or independently verify the video.
Why some followers objected
PerthNow reported that some followers said the joke disparaged an entire culture and characterized their criticism as “borderline racist.” That wording describes the critics’ reaction; the article does not establish that the comment was racist or show that followers agreed unanimously.
How followers responded
The report quoted contrasting comments. One follower said, “She should have apologised and taken it down instead she’s made it worse.” Another defended Stevenson: “Eggs smell period. She gets put under a microscope for absolutely everything she says no wonder she’s scrambling.” These are selected comments quoted by the publication, not polling or evidence of wider public opinion.
