Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How did SAG-AFTRA members choose the winners?
More than 118,000 SAG-AFTRA members in good standing were eligible to participate in final voting for the 2025 SAG Awards, according to the official SAG-AFTRA release. Two nominating panels, each made up of 2,500 randomly selected SAG-AFTRA members from across the United States, selected the nominees.
The awards’ structure reflects the performers’ union origins. SAG-AFTRA’s official release says, “The Screen Actors Guild Awards originated awards for motion picture cast and ensembles in drama and comedy television series.” The 2025 results therefore include both ensemble recognition and individual acting honors rather than a single film or television “best picture” award.
