The film’s dramatic focus is not battlefield action. It is the effort to bring Nazi leaders before an international tribunal, and the conflict between Kelley’s professional role and Göring’s attempts to influence him. The distributor describes it as a thriller and drama, in English and German. Mongrel Media’s film listing credits James Vanderbilt as writer and director and also lists Leo Woodall, Richard E. Grant, John Slattery, Mark O’Brien, Colin Hanks, Lydia Peckham and Wrenn Schmidt.

Is Nuremberg on Netflix?
Netflix Tudum’s guide, dated March 7, 2026, said “Stream it now.” That statement reflects the availability represented by Netflix’s guide, not a guarantee that the film is accessible in every country. A Netflix title page displayed a country-specific notice that the title was not available there. Search the title in your local Netflix catalog to confirm current access.
Is Nuremberg based on a true story?
The film is adapted from Jack El-Hai’s 2013 nonfiction book The Nazi and the Psychiatrist. Its central figures and historical setting are real, but the movie is a dramatized feature, not a transcript of the examinations or trial. Netflix identifies El-Hai’s book as the adaptation source, while the National WWII Museum provides historical context for Kelley’s work and the proceedings. Netflix Tudum; Hachette Book Group; The National WWII Museum.
What happened at the historical Nuremberg trials?
The International Military Tribunal’s first trial ran from November 1945 to October 1946. It was the first of 13 trials in the wider Nuremberg series, according to historian Haley Guepet of The National WWII Museum. Kelley’s assignment involved examining 22 captured senior Nazi officials and assessing whether they were mentally fit to stand trial.
The proceedings addressed crimes against peace, war crimes and crimes against humanity. The Allies faced a choice between releasing the prisoners, executing them or trying them through a legal process. The museum’s account explains that choosing trials was also an argument for accountability through law rather than summary punishment.

“The privilege of opening the first trial in history for crimes against the peace of the world imposes a grave responsibility.”
That line comes from Jackson’s opening statement to the International Military Tribunal on November 21, 1945, as quoted by The National WWII Museum. Read the museum’s historical account.

What book was the film adapted from?
El-Hai’s The Nazi and the Psychiatrist: Hermann Göring, Dr. Douglas M. Kelley, and a Fatal Meeting of Minds at the End of WWII is the nonfiction source. The film condenses the subject into a dramatic feature focused on Kelley and Göring; the book offers a nonfiction account of their historical encounter. Hachette lists paperback, ebook and audiobook editions. See the publisher’s book page.
Is “instant classic” an established verdict?
“Instant classic” is a subjective description, not a documented consensus established by the available film and historical sources. Netflix and the distributor provide the film’s premise and details, but those sources do not establish a critic aggregate, audience score or award that would make the label a factual claim. Viewers can judge the film on its own merits.
