The title means “The Pearl” in Spanish. For listeners looking for the song’s meaning, the most grounded interpretation is to consider its pointed tone and reported musical influences without treating speculation about a real-life subject as confirmation.
What is “La Perla” about?
Vogue characterizes the song as a “comically direct excoriation” delivered over a waltz pulse. That description supports hearing it as a sharply addressed rebuke, but it is a critical characterization—not a creator’s definitive, line-by-line explanation of the lyrics.

Public discussion has connected the song to a former relationship. Univision and Vogue report that speculation, but the available reporting does not verify a named person as the target. The song’s language and tone can invite listeners to read it as personal without proving that it documents a specific relationship or identifies anyone.

Why the waltz and Paquita la del Barrio matter
Vogue reports that “La Perla” uses a waltz pulse and was inspired by Paquita la del Barrio’s “Rata de Dos Patas.” That reported connection offers a useful musical frame for the song’s confrontational address: it places the track alongside a tradition of pointed, theatrical reproach. It does not establish who ROSALÍA is addressing in “La Perla.”
How “La Perla” fits on LUX
“La Perla” appears on LUX, which Sony Music’s official Spanish store lists in CD and vinyl formats. ROSALÍA’s official site credits the song to ROSALÍA and Yahritza Y Su Esencia. Those facts establish its place on the album and its credited collaborators; they do not, on their own, explain the song’s autobiographical meaning.

What remains unconfirmed
No verified identification of a real-life target, nor a song-specific statement from ROSALÍA defining the lyrics’ meaning, is established by the cited reporting. Treat claims naming a former partner as speculation, not fact. The interpretation that can be supported is narrower: the song is presented in reporting as a pointed address, set to a waltz pulse, with a reported connection to Paquita la del Barrio’s “Rata de Dos Patas.”
