WWE’s recap describes Rhodes’s emotional celebration, but it does not say what Reigns felt at the moment of the pin. Reigns later said that a separate conversation with Rhodes after the match was unnecessary: putting their bodies on the line together was thanks enough.
How Cody Rhodes pinned Roman Reigns
WWE lists the Sunday main event as Rhodes defeating Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Title in a Bloodline Rules Match. The bout involved both the Bloodline and Rhodes’s allies. After The Undertaker intervened against The Rock, Rhodes hit Reigns with three successive Cross Rhodes to secure the win. WWE’s WrestleMania XL Sunday recap describes the celebration around the new champion as emotional.
The stipulation followed the previous night’s main event: The Rock and Reigns defeated Rhodes and Seth Rollins, ensuring that the Sunday title match would be contested under Bloodline Rules, according to WWE’s Saturday results.
What Roman Reigns said afterward
In a later Sports Illustrated interview, reported by Wrestling Inc. on November 28, 2024, Reigns was asked whether he and Rhodes reflected on the match after the cameras were off. Reigns said there had been no separate conversation, adding:

“We know what we did, we were both out there, so you can thank each other and all that old stuff but we put our bodies on the line together and I think that’s thanks enough.”
Wrestling Inc.’s report attributes the remarks to Reigns’s Sports Illustrated interview. He also joked that he was not waiting around while Rhodes “babyface[d] for four hours.” His comments were about not having a separate post-match exchange, not a direct account of how he felt when Rhodes pinned him.

What his reaction to the pin can—and cannot—be said to show
The available comments do not establish whether Reigns felt anger, disappointment, respect, relief, or another specific emotion at the instant of the finish. WWE’s recap reports the match and Rhodes’s celebration, not Reigns’s private emotional state. The later interview offers Reigns’s perspective on the work they shared and his view that the match itself was enough acknowledgment; it should not be treated as an immediate reaction to losing.
