Roku’s Howdy is one of the cheapest ad-free streaming subscriptions available: $2.99 per month, plus applicable tax. But the Disney claim needs clarification. Roku confirms that Disney+ can be subscribed to through its platform; its official Howdy pages do not clearly confirm that Disney movies have been added to Howdy’s own $2.99 catalog.
What is Roku Howdy?
Howdy is Roku’s subscription video-on-demand service. It launched in the United States in August 2025 and is marketed as an always-ad-free library of recognizable, feel-good movies and shows. Roku highlights titles including Weeds, Dirty Dancing, and P.S. I Love You.
The current advertised price is $2.99 per month, plus applicable tax. It is a monthly subscription with no long-term commitment, and Roku says subscribers can cancel at any time. Access generally continues through the end of the billing period already paid for.
Roku’s 2025 Form 10-K described Howdy as launching with nearly 10,000 hours of content. That was a launch-era figure, not a guaranteed current catalog size; Roku’s consumer-facing page now uses the broader description “thousands of shows and movies.”

Roku’s Howdy page describes the service as “always ad-free” and says its programming is uninterrupted. That applies to the Howdy on-demand experience—not to every service or channel available on Roku. The broader Roku platform and The Roku Channel also include free, ad-supported programming.
Are Disney movies included with Howdy?
Roku has not clearly documented, in the official material reviewed, that Disney movies are part of Howdy’s $2.99 catalog.
Roku’s Premium Subscriptions directory lists Disney+ as a separate service available through Roku. Roku support also explains that customers can subscribe to Disney+ through Roku or directly through Disney. Disney confirms that Roku-billed Disney+ subscriptions exist.
That does not mean Disney+ is included with Howdy. It means Roku can provide the billing and viewing interface for a separate Disney+ subscription. The distinction matters because a Disney movie appearing in Roku search is not proof that it is included in Howdy.

Three different meanings of “Disney on Roku”
- Disney movies added to Howdy: This would require a specific Roku announcement, an official Howdy catalog listing, or title pages identifying the films as available through Howdy. The available official sources do not establish that.
- Disney+ available through Roku: This is confirmed, but Disney+ remains a separately paid subscription.
- Disney movies discoverable through Roku: Roku’s universal search can show titles available through different apps, subscriptions, rentals, or purchases. A search result is a discovery result, not a statement that the title is included in Howdy.

How to check whether a specific Disney movie is included
- Search for the movie using Roku’s search or “What’s On” interface.
- Open the title’s details page and examine the “Ways to watch” information.
- Look for an explicit Howdy label or an option showing that the title is included with your Howdy subscription.
- Do not assume that a Disney+ badge, rental price, purchase option, or another streaming-service listing is part of Howdy.
Availability can change by title, country, licensing agreement, date, and subscription plan. Roku’s search page is useful for finding where a movie is available, but it aggregates the wider Roku ecosystem.

Howdy should not be treated as a Disney+ replacement. Roku’s own executive commentary has positioned the service as an affordable complement to other streaming subscriptions, rather than as a direct catalog substitute for premium services.

What the $2.99 subscription does—and does not—include
The fee gives you access to Howdy’s included library. It does not automatically include Disney+, Hulu, Netflix, other Roku Premium Subscriptions, paid rentals, or purchases.

This is also why the phrase “ad-free Roku streaming” can be misleading. Howdy may be ad-free, but Roku remains a platform containing free ad-supported channels and separately billed apps. A Howdy subscription does not remove advertising from other services.
Where can you watch Howdy?
Roku says Howdy is available on Roku TVs, Roku streaming players, the Roku mobile app, Howdy’s iOS and Android apps, and the web through Howdy’s official service page and Howdy.tv. Roku’s support documentation also confirms that a Roku device is not required for web and mobile access, although availability varies by country and platform.
Roku’s current official page confirms availability in the United States and Mexico. It should not be treated as a globally available service.

On a Roku device
- Find Howdy through Roku or open the Roku Channel Store.
- Install or open the Howdy app.
- Follow the on-screen subscription prompts.
- Confirm the payment method associated with your Roku account.
- Begin streaming after activation.
On the web
- Visit Howdy.tv or the official Howdy page.
- Complete the sign-up flow.
- Sign in with the account associated with the subscription.
- Stream through the supported web experience.
On a phone or tablet
- Download the Howdy app from the Apple App Store or Google Play.
- Open the app and complete the subscription process.
- Sign in on supported devices.
Cancellation and billing details
Roku-billed Howdy subscribers should sign in to the relevant Roku account, open subscription management, select Howdy, choose the cancellation or auto-renewal option, and confirm. Check the displayed end date afterward.

Cancellation normally stops the next renewal rather than ending access immediately. Roku’s subscription terms say subscriptions renew automatically until canceled and generally do not provide partial-month refunds. Taxes may also apply.
If you subscribed through a different billing platform, cancel through that platform. This is particularly important with Disney+: Roku says some Disney+ account-management issues may need to be handled directly with Disney, even when Roku processes the billing.

Howdy makes sense as a low-risk supplemental service if you want inexpensive, familiar entertainment without commercials. The low monthly price also makes it practical to rotate in for a month, watch the titles you want, and cancel before renewal.
It is less compelling if you mainly want new blockbusters, major original series, or a deep collection of Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic programming. In that case, Disney+ is the more direct choice—provided its current plan and catalog meet your needs.

The biggest caution is catalog expectation. A low price does not guarantee the newest releases, and licensed titles can change. Also, the savings disappear if you rarely use the service or forget about an automatic renewal.
Family viewing and parental controls
Roku says parental controls for The Roku Channel and Howdy can require a Roku PIN based on movie and television ratings. However, those controls apply on the Roku device and may not carry over in the same way to the website, mobile app, or other streaming services. The verdict
Howdy is a genuinely strong bargain on price: $2.99 per month for an ad-free catalog, with access on Roku devices, the web, and mobile. But the Disney angle should not be overstated. Roku confirms Disney+ as a separate subscription available through its platform; it does not, in the official material reviewed, confirm that Disney movies have joined Howdy’s included library.
