Rogers Anyplace TV shut down on October 10, 2021: What changed for subscribers

Rogers decommissioned Anyplace TV for legacy Rogers Digital TV packages effective October 10, 2021. The shutdown ended viewing of subscribed programming on computers and mobile devices through the Anyplace TV app and online portal; it was not described as cancellation of the underlying Digital TV subscription. Rogers directed customers toward its Ignite TV platform and app.

What ended on October 10, 2021?

The affected service was the Anyplace TV app and web streaming portal associated with Rogers Digital TV packages. Rogers said that, because the service was delivered through those software platforms, subscribers would “no longer be able to view subscribed programming on your computer or mobile devices via Rogers Anyplace TV.”

That wording describes the loss of app and browser access. The contemporaneous notices did not say that customers’ Rogers Digital TV channel subscriptions themselves were cancelled.

Why did the Anyplace TV app stop working?

Rogers retired the legacy Anyplace TV service rather than continuing it for Digital TV customers. A Rogers community moderator announced the decommissioning on June 11, 2021, and Rogers’ confirmation was reported on October 7, 2021. The effective retirement date was October 10, 2021.

What was Anyplace TV?

Anyplace TV was Rogers’ “TV everywhere” companion for watching and managing television away from a traditional set-top box. Rogers introduced Anyplace TV Home Edition on December 4, 2012, for tablets and smartphones as a companion to its NextBox experience.

Original Home Edition features

  • Search and browse TV listings.
  • Use a tablet or smartphone as a virtual remote.
  • Manage PVR recordings remotely.
  • Live-stream 25 channels while at home, according to Rogers’ 2012 launch material.

Later service scale and catalogue

Rogers investor material from approximately 2014 described Anyplace TV as an online and mobile destination for primetime programs, movies and sports. That presentation reported approximately 850,000 registered users and more than 10,000 on-demand assets and growing.

Ignite TV was presented as a service migration, not as a promise that the retired Anyplace TV application would continue working with a new streaming stick or another generic device. Whether Ignite TV is available, and what equipment or bundle it requires, depends on the customer’s Rogers package and location.

Can former Digital TV customers still watch on a phone or computer?

They could no longer use the retired Anyplace TV app or portal after October 10, 2021. A customer seeking mobile or computer viewing had to check eligibility for Rogers’ Ignite TV service and app rather than expect the legacy Digital TV login to restore Anyplace TV access.

Do not confuse this with the 2026 Rogers Xfinity app retirement

Rogers has separately announced that the Rogers Xfinity (Shaw) app will retire on April 28, 2026, with migration to a new Rogers Xfinity app. That later event concerns the former Shaw Xfinity app and is unrelated to the October 10, 2021 retirement of Anyplace TV for legacy Rogers Digital TV customers.

The Bottom Line

Rogers Anyplace TV access for Digital TV customers ended on October 10, 2021. The shutdown removed the app and web route to subscribed programming on computers and mobile devices; Rogers’ documented replacement direction was Ignite TV.
