Cyndi Lauper and OutKast were among the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s 2025 Performer inductees, but they were part of a much larger class. The Hall also recognized Bad Company, Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Soundgarden and The White Stripes as performers, alongside honorees in three other award categories.
Who was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2025?
The Hall announced the class on April 27, 2025. Its inductees were divided among four categories, so not every honoree was inducted as a performing artist.
| Category | 2025 inductees |
|---|---|
| Performer | Bad Company, Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Cyndi Lauper, OutKast, Soundgarden and The White Stripes |
| Musical Influence | Salt-N-Pepa and Warren Zevon |
| Musical Excellence | Thom Bell, Nicky Hopkins and Carol Kaye |
| Ahmet Ertegun Award | Lenny Waronker |
The Hall’s eligibility rule requires an artist or band to have released its first commercial recording at least 25 years before the nomination year. Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Bad Company and OutKast were first-time nominees in 2025; Cyndi Lauper, Soundgarden and The White Stripes had been nominated previously. Why were Cyndi Lauper and OutKast inducted?
Both were recognized in the Performer category, but the Hall’s profiles point to very different musical traditions and career paths.

Cyndi Lauper: pop, new wave and a broad creative career
The Hall describes Lauper as a singer with a four-octave voice and distinctive style, and emphasizes her influential 1980s recordings, work on the Tony-winning score for Kinky Boots, and LGBTQIA+ advocacy. Those are the Hall’s characterizations of her significance, rather than a separate measure of her impact. Her induction performance included “Girls Just Want to Have Fun,” “Time After Time” and “True Colors,” with Avril Lavigne and RAYE joining her. Chappell Roan inducted Lauper. (Rock Hall: Cyndi Lauper)
OutKast: Southern hip-hop and genre-crossing production
The Hall credits André 3000 and Big Boi with expanding hip-hop’s musical range through Southern storytelling and a mix of funk, soul, jazz, rock and Afrofuturism. Its profile describes Speakerboxxx/The Love Below as a multiplatinum 2003 release and presents the duo’s work as culturally influential. Donald Glover inducted OutKast, and the Hall described an all-star tribute to the group. (Rock Hall: OutKast)
