Robert Stone said the NXT general manager role felt less like a leap into the unknown than the culmination of preparation: he had spent about two years as assistant to the GM and, by his own account, more than 25 years in professional wrestling and more than seven years in NXT. In a March 31, 2026 interview, he described himself as stressed—but also ready to lead NXT through what he called a new phase, with opportunity for emerging talent at its center.
From assistant to NXT general manager
The interview was published March 31, 2026, ahead of NXT Stand & Deliver on April 4. Its “interim” framing reflects the earlier transition period: F4W/WON reported that Ava left WWE on January 30, Stone took over as interim NXT GM on February 3, and Stone announced he was full-time on March 27. That is a historical timeline, not a statement about his status after March 2026. F4W/WON’s report also noted that Stone announced a four-way NXT Championship defense for Stand & Deliver involving Joe Hendry, Ricky Saints, Ethan Page and Tony D’Angelo.
Stone’s argument for readiness was practical as well as personal. He said his assistant role let him observe how the job worked and consider what he would do if he had to run the brand. He described that experience, along with his broader wrestling tenure, as preparation rather than proof that the transition would be effortless. The years he cited are his own figures, not independently audited career statistics.
His humor about feeling stressed sits alongside conspicuous confidence. In the interview, Stone said he felt prepared and ready for the responsibility. That confidence is his assessment of his readiness; the interview does not establish how his decisions would perform over time.

His stated priority: give new talent a chance
Stone described NXT as entering a new phase and said he wanted fresh faces to get the opportunity to prove themselves. He specifically named The Vanity Project, Shawn Legacy and Keanu Carver, pointing to performers viewers may have encountered on Evolve before they received more exposure on NXT. Fightful’s contemporaneous report likewise quoted his comments about new talent stepping up.
The emphasis in Stone’s pitch is on opportunity, not a guarantee of success: he said these performers were being given a chance to shine and show whether they could deliver. His comments frame the GM role as partly about opening space for prospects, while the actual result would depend on how NXT used that exposure and how the wrestlers responded in stories and matches.

A personal connection to the pipeline
Stone said WWE ID and Evolve gave him a personal connection to the talent pipeline. Watching prospects develop and later appear on NXT made him feel invested in their journeys. That perspective ties his support for new faces to a longer developmental path, rather than treating a call-up as a one-night novelty.
It also leaves a real editorial test for his vision: can NXT make room for developing talent while maintaining the continuity and established performers that viewers already follow? Stone’s interview states the priority, but does not set out a screen-time allocation or a detailed plan for balancing those demands.

Stand & Deliver outside WrestleMania weekend
Stone addressed the event’s move away from WrestleMania weekend with a “glass half full” outlook. He said a standalone date could let NXT’s biggest show have its own spotlight, rather than compete with another major wrestling show on the same day. He also suggested some fans might be reluctant to watch two shows in one day, and welcomed the prospect of a less punishing call time for performers.
These were Stone’s expectations before the April 4 event, not established audience or business results. WrestleTalk’s report covered his reasoning about the scheduling change. The interview offers a clear view of how he wanted to frame the shift: as a chance for NXT to stand alone, not simply as a loss of association with WrestleMania weekend.

What his “hybrid vision” amounts to
The phrase “hybrid vision” associated with the interview points to a balance between retaining NXT’s identity and moving into a new phase. Stone’s most concrete statement of change is the emphasis on giving newer talent—especially names connected with Evolve and WWE ID—a visible opportunity. Beyond that, the interview does not define a complete creative blueprint or specify how established stars and prospects would share attention.
That makes the vision easiest to assess through questions rather than predictions: whether the named newcomers receive sustained story investment, whether development translates into meaningful NXT roles, and whether the brand can give its biggest event independent attention. The March interview records Stone’s priorities and expectations; it does not provide post-event audience figures or other evidence that those expectations were fulfilled.

What the interview establishes—and what it does not
- Stone’s case for readiness: he cited about two years as assistant to the GM and self-reported more than 25 years in wrestling and more than seven years in NXT.
- His stated talent priority: he wanted newer performers, including The Vanity Project, Shawn Legacy and Keanu Carver, to get a chance to prove themselves.
- His event outlook: he viewed Stand & Deliver’s separate date as an opportunity for NXT to command attention and for performers to avoid an early call time.
- What remains unproven by this interview: whether the talent push produced lasting progress or whether the scheduling change increased audience attention. The available material gives no attendance, viewership or commercial outcome figures.
