Rob Reiner’s closest friends released a joint statement to The Associated Press on Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2025, mourning both Rob and Michele Reiner. The signatories remembered Rob’s work across comedy, drama, mockumentary and documentary, his collaborative approach to filmmaking, and the couple’s commitment to improving life for others.
Who signed the statement
The signatories were Billy and Janice Crystal, Albert and Kimberly Brooks, Martin Short, Alan and Robin Zweibel, Larry David and Ashley Underwood, Marc Shaiman and Lou Mirabal, Barry and Diana Levinson, and James Costos and Michael Smith. The Associated Press identifies Costos as an ambassador.
The Los Angeles Times also reported the statement’s release on Dec. 16. Its coverage connects the tribute to Reiner’s work with some of the signatories: he directed When Harry Met Sally… (1989), starring Billy Crystal, and Albert Brooks: Defending My Life (2023), and appeared on Larry David’s Curb Your Enthusiasm.
What the friends remembered
The statement praised Reiner’s range across comedy, drama, mockumentary and documentary, as well as his care for dialogue and the way he worked with actors and writers. It also remembered Rob and Michele as people dedicated to improving life for their fellow citizens.
