What TV shows was Rob Reiner in?
All in the Family
Reiner’s television breakthrough was playing Michael “Meathead” Stivic, the liberal son-in-law of Archie Bunker, on All in the Family from 1971 to 1979. The Television Academy says the role earned him two Emmy Awards. Before acting brought him to a wide audience, he worked as a television writer, including on The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. The Television Academy’s biography covers both parts of his early career.
Later television appearances
In later years, Reiner appeared on New Girl, The Good Fight, and The Bear. He played Albert on The Bear and received a posthumous 2026 Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series, according to the Television Academy’s awards listing. That award followed the two Emmys he had won for All in the Family.

A title associated with Reiner is not necessarily a film he directed. His career included acting, writing, directing, and producing, and reference catalogs sort those jobs separately. The AFI Catalog lists 40 titles in Reiner’s filmography, accessed in 2026. That is the AFI’s catalog count across categories such as cast, director, producer, writer, music, and history—not a count of every television appearance or all his career activity. TV Guide likewise separates credits by role, including acting, producing, directing, writing, soundtrack, and script department. View its credit categories.

Castle Rock Entertainment
Reiner co-founded Castle Rock Entertainment in 1987. The company produced many of his films as well as Seinfeld; the Associated Press also names The Shawshank Redemption among Castle Rock’s hits. A production-company connection is distinct from a personal directing credit: for example, a film produced by Castle Rock should not automatically be described as directed by Reiner. The Associated Press obituary discusses the company and its productions.
