They married in July 1991 and have two sons. Lowe has said the relationship helped prompt him to reconsider his life and pursue sobriety; that is his personal account, not evidence that Berkoff alone caused his recovery.
How Rob Lowe and Sheryl Berkoff met
Their first meeting was a blind date in 1983. The accounts differ on what followed: Us Weekly says nothing came of the date initially, while AARP characterizes the encounter as a brief fling before they later reconnected. The shared point is that the 1983 meeting did not begin the enduring relationship.
Reconnecting on Bad Influence
Around 1990, Lowe and Berkoff crossed paths again while working on Bad Influence, the thriller starring Lowe. Both Us Weekly and AARP identify the film as the setting for their reconnection; Us Weekly says their romance blossomed there. The film’s production brought them together again, but the sources do not specify a more exact date for when they began dating.
Marriage, children and anniversaries
Lowe and Berkoff married in July 1991. The Television Academy’s profile of Lowe also confirms that they married in 1991 and welcomed two sons within four years. Us Weekly identifies their sons as Matthew, born in 1993, and John, born in 1995.

What Lowe has said about their relationship and his recovery
In a March 2014 interview with Haute Living, quoted by Us Weekly, Lowe said, “[Our relationship] made me examine how I was living my life,” adding that this “led me to getting sober.” Us Weekly reports that he has been in recovery since May 10, 1990. Lowe has also recalled telling Entertainment Tonight that Berkoff “may have saved my life, really,” describing himself as being at the end of his “’80s run of wild boy craziness.” These remarks explain how Lowe has framed her influence in retrospect; they do not establish that she alone caused his recovery.
