LOS40 reported on October 8 that, during the previous day’s Fenty Beauty livestream, Rihanna referred to having “at least” 17 boxes. The outlet rendered her words in Spanish as: “Si hay 10 productos en la Gloss Bomb Vault entonces tengo al menos… Al menos… ¡Al menos! 17 cajas” (“If there are 10 products in the Gloss Bomb Vault, then I have at least… at least… at least 17 boxes”). LOS40 says one box contained 10 products and uses that comparison to arrive at roughly 170 songs. That figure is an interpretation of the analogy, not a song-by-song count supplied or independently verified by Rihanna. Did Rihanna announce R9?
No. “R9” is the fan-used shorthand for Rihanna’s anticipated ninth album, a follow-up to 2016’s Anti. The reported livestream comment was about unreleased material; it did not include an official album title, track list, or release announcement. What is known about the album’s sound?
Rihanna’s earlier comments offer context, not final specifications. In 2019, she discussed looking toward reggae sounds from Barbados. By 2025, she said there was no fixed genre and that the earlier reggae direction had been scrapped. In an interview quoted by ELLE from Harper’s Bazaar, she described the project as unexpected and “not commercial or radio digestible.” None of these remarks confirms the sound of the finished album. Public comments have pointed to studio activity, but they do not provide a schedule. ELLE’s 2026 overview recaps a February studio comment from Rihanna and an August statement by A$AP Rocky that she was working in the studio.
