Tom Girardi, the former lawyer who appeared on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills (RHOBH), was sentenced on June 3, 2025, to 87 months in federal prison—seven years and three months—for wire fraud involving money owed to clients. The U.S. Department of Justice also reported a $35,000 fine and $2,310,247 in restitution.
What was Tom Girardi sentenced for?
A federal jury found Girardi guilty in August 2024 on four counts of wire fraud. Prosecutors said he embezzled tens of millions of dollars in client settlement funds over several years. Some clients were waiting for the money to pay for care related to severe physical injuries. The Associated Press reported that victims included injured clients and families of people killed in accidents.
The sentence was imposed by U.S. District Judge Josephine L. Staton. U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli characterized Girardi as a “‘champion of justice’” who was “nothing more than a thief and a liar who conned his vulnerable clients out of the millions of dollars,” according to the DOJ. That was the prosecutor’s statement, not a quotation from the judge.
How long is the prison sentence?
The precise term is 87 months, or seven years and three months. Describing it as “seven years” rounds down the sentence by three months.

What does RHOBH have to do with the case?
Girardi was Erika Jayne’s estranged husband and appeared on RHOBH dozens of times between 2015 and 2020, the Associated Press reported. The show explains why his name is familiar to many viewers, but his sentence arose from the federal wire-fraud case over client settlement funds—not from his television appearances.
