A report relaying details from a New York Times account says Romy Reiner found her father, Rob Reiner, dead inside the family’s Brentwood home without realizing that her mother, Michele Singer Reiner, was also inside. The account said she learned of her mother’s death from paramedics. This specific sequence has not been described in the Los Angeles Police Department’s public release.
What the report says happened
In a December 17, 2025, story, The Guardian relayed details attributed to a New York Times account citing a person close to the family who was not named. According to that account, Romy Reiner found her father’s body, left the house without knowing her mother was also inside, and learned from paramedics that her mother had died.

The same reported account said a massage therapist could not get into the home for a scheduled appointment and contacted Romy. It said Romy’s roommate called 911. These details are attributed reporting, not a statement from Romy or an official account of the discovery.

LAPD response
The Los Angeles Police Department said officers responded to a death investigation at the Reiners’ Brentwood address on December 14, 2025. Its public release announced an arrest in the murder investigation but did not identify who first entered the home or describe what that person saw. The release’s silence neither confirms nor disproves the reported sequence.
Criminal case status
On August 12, 2026, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced that Nick Reiner had been indicted on murder charges in connection with his parents’ deaths. An indictment is an allegation, not a conviction; the county announcement said the case remained under investigation.

How to understand the discovery detail
The central detail—that Romy found her father and did not initially know her mother was also dead in the house—comes from news reporting that cites an unnamed person close to the family. CBS separately reported that she discovered both parents’ bodies and called police, but did not establish the same sequence. The LAPD release confirms the date and location of its response, not the reported details of the discovery.
