Miru can make it easier to find and resume anime in one interface, with saved watch progress, metadata, and optional AniList tracking. But it is an extension-based media client, not a streaming service with a guaranteed catalog: what you can watch depends on the sources you add. First, make sure you have the right Miru—another app once called Miru has rebranded as Hayase.
What Miru is—and which Miru you mean
The current Miru project at miru.js.org is a free, open-source media application for video, comics, and novels. It uses extensions to connect to content sources, so installing the app does not automatically give you every anime or a fixed streaming catalog. Its documented features include saved viewing progress, TMDB metadata, AniList tracking, and official or custom extension repositories.

The shared name can lead to outdated instructions or downloads for the wrong product. For this guide, “Miru” means the open-source application at miru.js.org.
Why Miru can help with re-watching
- One interface for supported sources: Extensions can make available sources accessible from the app rather than requiring a separate site for each one.
- Saved progress: Miru says it saves viewing progress, which can help you return to an episode without relying on memory.
- Metadata and tracking: TMDB metadata can help organize movie and television information; AniList integration is available for anime tracking.
- Extensible sources: Official and custom extension repositories let users add or change sources, but source availability and quality remain outside any guarantee of the app itself.
- Open-source software: The project’s code is publicly available for inspection and community contribution.
These features can make navigation more comfortable. They do not ensure that a title is available, that a stream works smoothly, or that a particular source has permission to distribute it.

Platforms and limitations
The project documents Android, Windows, and Web versions. The official download page says the Web version has limited functionality and is being refactored, and recommends the client version for a fuller experience. Linux is currently unsupported; the project’s GitHub README cites QuickJS dependency problems. Check the official download page and repository for current platform and release details.
Platform support also affects comfort: a Windows or Android client may be a better fit than the limited Web version, while Linux users should not assume there is a supported native build. The documented platform list does not establish support for every television, device, or playback feature.

How to install Miru and start an episode
- Use the official project pages. Start at the Miru site or its GitHub repository. Choose a release package for your supported operating system from the project’s Releases rather than downloading an installer from an unfamiliar mirror.
- Install and open the client. Follow the installation prompts for the package you chose. The project also documents building from source, but that is an advanced route, not necessary for ordinary use.
- Open extension or source management. Enable an official extension repository where one is available. Only add a custom repository if you trust its operator and understand what it can access.
- Search for the series. Try the title you remember; if it does not appear, search an alternate English, Japanese, or romanized spelling.
- Open the series and choose an episode. Select the season or episode you want, then start playback from an available source.
- Check progress saving. After watching, return to the series or episode view and confirm that progress changed. If you want anime tracking, connect AniList through the integration available in your version.
The GitHub README lists Flutter commands for people building the app themselves, including flutter pub get, flutter run, flutter build apk, and flutter build windows. These are developer commands, not required installation steps for most users.

The anime does not appear
- Check whether the relevant extension is installed and enabled.
- Try alternate English, Japanese, or romanized spellings, since titles may be indexed differently.
- Consider whether the source carries the title in your region; a title may be absent or unavailable where you are.
- Restart Miru or update the extension in the app if an otherwise expected source has stopped responding.
- Do not install random extension packages from unverified sites to fill a catalog gap.
Playback fails or buffers
- Try another available source or release if one is offered; an individual stream may be offline.
- If you configured a proxy, check whether it is interfering. Miru documents HTTP, SOCKS4, and SOCKS5 proxy protocols; an incorrect setting can prevent a connection.
- Test whether the same network can reach ordinary sites, then update Miru from the official release page if the client is out of date.
- When dependable playback matters more than flexibility, use a licensed service available in your location.
For the separate former Miru torrent-oriented project now called Hayase, stream availability can also depend on torrent peers. Do not apply that product’s features or behavior to the miru.js.org app.

Watch progress does not appear to save
- Confirm that you watched through a supported source and returned to the episode or series view to check its status.
- If you use AniList tracking, verify that the integration is connected and enabled.
- Allow the app to finish updating before closing it; an interrupted update may leave the displayed state unchanged.
- If progress still does not change, treat it as an app-state or integration issue rather than assuming the video source controls tracking.
Miru’s documented progress-saving feature does not by itself establish that every version or integration synchronizes progress to the cloud.
Safety, privacy, and legality
Open-source software and lawful access to a video are separate questions. Miru is a client; whether watching a particular source is lawful depends on the source’s rights, the content, and the laws and licensing arrangements in your territory. The app’s existence does not grant permission to access every work its extensions may list. Prefer services authorized to offer the title where you live.

- Download Miru from its official site or repository, not an unverified mirror.
- Check an extension’s origin and permissions before installing it. Extensions and repositories can affect privacy and security.
- Avoid treating a custom repository as trustworthy merely because it works in the app; use sources you can verify.
- Do not assume that a title’s appearance in search means it is licensed, available in your country, or safe to play.
The separate project at miru.watch describes torrent streaming, torrent management, local downloads, and community sources, and says it has rebranded as Hayase. Those are not grounds to describe the current miru.js.org app as a licensed streaming service.

The key difference is who supplies the content. Miru offers a flexible interface whose catalog depends on extensions and their sources. Licensed services provide titles they have rights to distribute in a given territory, though no single service carries every anime everywhere.

For the United States, Crunchyroll’s official pricing announcement listed Fan at $9.99 per month, Mega Fan at $13.99 per month, and Ultimate Fan at $17.99 per month. These are U.S. plan prices reported in its February 2, 2026 announcement; confirm current terms, device limits, taxes, and promotions on the official plans page before subscribing. The announcement also mentioned a limited annual Fan promotion at $66.99, which should not be treated as a recurring standard price. Paid plans include offline viewing, with device limits varying by tier.
HIDIVE’s U.S. help page lists $6.99 per month or $69.99 per year, plus applicable taxes. Confirm availability and current terms on its official signup help page; a lower subscription price does not mean it has every title another service carries.
Use the series’ official streaming page when you need to know where a specific title is authorized. For example, the official page for 未ル (Miru): Paths To My Future lists It’s Anime on Samsung TV Plus and YouTube for North American availability; that series is unrelated to the Miru app.
Who should use Miru?
Miru is a reasonable fit if you are comfortable managing extensions and want one open-source interface for supported media sources, progress, and tracking. It is a poor fit if you need guaranteed licensed availability, simple television apps, customer support, parental controls, or dependable offline viewing. Offline playback is not established as a feature of the miru.js.org app by the cited project information; do not infer it from Hayase’s separate local-download features.
Judge comfort by the whole viewing path, not just the interface: can you find the older title under the name you remember, select readable subtitles, resume reliably, and use a source that remains available and is authorized where you live? Miru can streamline navigation, but the underlying source determines much of the experience.
