The catalog is split among digital rentals and purchases, free ad-supported services, occasional Prime Video listings, broadcast airings and DVD/Blu-ray releases. “Streaming” can mean very different things, so the access type below is identified for every title.
Most of these “movies” are television specials running roughly 24 to 55 minutes; Rudolph and Frosty’s Christmas in July is an unusual 97-minute feature-length entry. Availability and prices can change by season, account and region.
What counts as a Rankin/Bass Christmas classic?
“Classic” is an editorial label, not an official catalog category. This guide starts with the best-known stop-motion and holiday specials and then adds sequels and lesser-known titles. Universal Pictures’ Original Christmas Specials Collection identifies Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman, Santa Claus Is Comin’ to Town, The Little Drummer Boy and Cricket on the Hearth as part of its collection.
Core specials: current U.S. availability
The table separates subscription access from transactional viewing. “Not located” means no such option was listed in the cited U.S. guide when checked; it does not prove that no provider can add it later.

Where to watch each core title
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (1964)
The famous 52-minute stop-motion special is currently easiest to obtain as a digital purchase through Amazon Video, Apple TV Store or Fandango At Home. The cited listing showed purchase prices around $9.99 to $14.99, but checkout prices and formats can change. A purchase is the safer choice if your family watches Rudolph every December.
Frosty the Snowman (1969)
The 25-minute original had a Fandango At Home rental or purchase listing, with no free streaming option shown in the July 31 check. Because broadcast rights can produce a free seasonal airing, check holiday schedules before buying.
Santa Claus Is Comin’ to Town (1970)
Amazon Video, Apple TV Store and Fandango At Home listed both rental and purchase routes in the July 29 check. Compare all three stores rather than assuming an Amazon listing is included with Prime.

- Christmas on Duty - After a snowstorm prevents all the presents from being delivered to base, two rival marines must team up for a special mission…to save Christmas. Stars Janel Parrish, Parker Young, and Peter Jacobson.
- The Christmas Cup - Marine Kelly leads her hometown team in the Christmas Cup against the neighboring town with help from Fireman Quinn. That is until he becomes the competition. Starring Rhiannon Fish and Ben Rosenbaum.
The Year Without a Santa Claus (1974)
Amazon Video, Apple TV Store and Fandango At Home listed rental and purchase options in the July 27 check. A digital purchase makes sense for repeat viewings of the Heat Miser and Snow Miser musical numbers.
The Little Drummer Boy (1968)
Prime Video’s “Original Christmas Specials Collection” presents this title, but a collection page is not proof that it is included in every U.S. Prime account. Open the individual listing and confirm whether the button says included, free with ads, rent or buy before starting playback.

Free viewing: what is actually free?
The First Christmas was listed free with ads on Free Movies Plus and Prime Video Free with Ads. “Free” here means no rental charge and includes advertising; device, account and regional eligibility can vary.
The 1948 Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer short was listed free with ads on Free Movies Plus, Pluto TV and Tubi TV, and through Kanopy and Hoopla. It is not the Rankin/Bass special most viewers mean.

If you want one title tonight
Check free ad-supported services first, then compare the rental buttons on Amazon Video, Apple TV Store and Fandango At Home. A rental is usually better value than a new subscription for a single viewing, but rental windows differ by retailer.
If you want annual access
Compare the cost of several digital purchases with a DVD or Blu-ray collection. Digital access is tied to the retailer’s account and terms; discs avoid catalog rotation but require a compatible player.
If you want no ads
Use a paid rental or purchase, or a disc. Do not treat a free-with-ads listing as an ad-free stream.

If you are willing to wait
Check the current December schedule for broadcast networks or a live-TV service. A scheduled airing is not on-demand streaming and may be limited to a date, channel or package.

- Subscription streaming: included in a paid service plan.
- Free ad-supported streaming: no rental fee, with advertisements.

Titles that are easy to confuse
1964 versus 1948 Rudolph: the 1964, 52-minute Rankin/Bass stop-motion special is the famous Christmas classic. The 1948 entry is an unrelated eight-minute theatrical short associated with Max Fleischer. Check the year before selecting a free result.
Rudolph’s Shiny New Year: the 1976 special is a separate Baby New Year adventure, not another cut of the 1964 story.
Frosty the Snowman versus Frosty’s Winter Wonderland: the 1969 original and 1976 follow-up have separate listings and may require separate transactions.
Rudolph and Frosty’s Christmas in July: the 1979 crossover is a distinct 97-minute special, not a standard Christmas-night installment.
