It summarized eligible, signed-in viewing activity across videos and Shorts, with a separate YouTube Music experience for listening and podcasts. The main 2025 story was a limited-time feature intended to remain in the You tab only through the end of 2025, so it may no longer open after December 31, 2025.
How viewers opened the 2025 YouTube Recap
Android and iPhone/iPad
- Update the YouTube app to version 18.43 or newer.
- Sign in to the Google account that contains your personal watch history.
- Tap You at the bottom of the app.
- Look for the Recap banner or card and tap it to start the story.
YouTube’s instructions are documented in its YouTube Help guide.
Desktop browser
While signed in, open youtube.com/recap. If the page is unavailable now, that is consistent with the Recap’s end-of-year access window rather than proof that your account was configured incorrectly.
YouTube Recap and YouTube Music Recap are different
| What you want | Where to look | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| General YouTube viewing summary | YouTube app → You, or youtube.com/recap | Creators, interests, videos, Shorts and viewing patterns |
| Music statistics | YouTube Music → profile picture → Your Recap | Songs, artists, playlists and listening history |
| Podcast statistics | YouTube Music → Your Recap, if eligible | Podcast listening and qualifying top-show cards |
The music path is described in YouTube Music Help. Looking only in YouTube Music will not necessarily reveal the main viewing Recap, and looking only in regular YouTube may not show the full music experience.

What the main Recap could show
- Top channels and creators.
- Favorite interests and topics.
- Viewing patterns and changes in interests.
- A personalized viewer-personality card.
- Music-related artists and songs, plus some information routed through YouTube Music.
- Eligible podcast information.
- Shareable, downloadable story cards.
The summary was generated from eligible signed-in activity, not necessarily every video a person watched. YouTube says activity from mobile, computers and TVs could contribute, as could downloaded videos. Cards and statistics varied by watch history, language, location and eligibility. The launch description is in YouTube’s announcement.
YouTube Music Recap eligibility was separate
YouTube Music’s documented end-of-year rules used a January 1–November 15, 2025 listening period. They required:

The regular YouTube support page describes a different watch-history window ending in late October 2025. These are separate products and their dates should not be combined. Mostly made-for-kids music or podcasts could exclude a user, as could podcasts migrated from Google Podcasts or added through an RSS feed.
Why your Recap may have been missing
The 2025 access period ended
YouTube’s launch guidance said the main Recap was available from the You tab only through the end of 2025. A missing story in 2026 may therefore reflect expiration, not a technical fault. YouTube has not established that the 2025 story remains viewable after that period.

Not enough eligible watch history
YouTube needed sufficient activity during its qualifying period. Paused watch history did not count, and activity removed by auto-delete could not be used.
Auto-delete removed older activity
Auto-delete, including a three-month setting, can leave too little history. Turning it off shortly before checking does not guarantee that a missing Recap will be recreated.

Location, language or rollout limits
YouTube described availability in more than 185 countries and 17 languages, not every country or language. During the December 2025 launch, rollout was also staged, so some accounts received the feature later.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.A practical troubleshooting checklist
- Confirm that you are looking for the 2025 Recap and that the original end-of-year window has not passed.
- While signed in, try youtube.com/recap.
- In the mobile app, open You and look for the Recap card.
- Update the app to version 18.43 or newer.
- Switch to the account that holds the relevant personal watch history.
- Review watch-history settings and confirm history was not paused during the qualifying period.
- Review auto-delete settings; do not assume changing them now will restore the story.
- If you want songs, artists or podcasts, check YouTube Music → profile picture → Your Recap.
- If cards or playlists are still available, use each card’s Share or Download control immediately.
Sharing and privacy
Recap cards could be shared to a social network or contact, or downloaded to the device. Review each card before posting: it may reveal favorite creators, songs, interests or viewing habits. The story was personalized from account activity, but it was not presented as a complete forensic record of every watch.
What this feature was—and was not
YouTube Recap was an account-based summary, not the old editorial YouTube Rewind video series. It was also not documented as requiring YouTube Premium. YouTube called the 2025 launch its first-ever personalized YouTube Recap.
The Bottom Line
For the 2025 Recap, use the YouTube app’s You tab or youtube.com/recap; use YouTube Music’s Your Recap for listening and podcast statistics. If neither appears now, the limited 2025 availability period, insufficient or deleted history, account restrictions, or eligibility rules are the most likely explanations.
