Rachel Zegler apologized on November 15, 2024, after backlash over emotional Instagram Stories about Donald Trump and his supporters following the 2024 presidential election. Megyn Kelly had called on Disney to fire Zegler from Snow White the day before. Disney did not remove her: the film opened on March 21, 2025, with Zegler still playing the title character.
Rachel Zegler apologized on November 15, 2024, after receiving backlash for emotional post-election Instagram Stories about Donald Trump and his supporters. The apology addressed the hostile tone of her remarks and her contribution to negative discourse; it did not amount to a retraction of her political disagreement with Trump.
The controversy intensified after Megyn Kelly called on Disney to fire Zegler from the live-action Snow White. Disney did not remove her from the film. Disney’s own film and production pages identify Zegler as Snow White, and the movie opened in theaters on March 21, 2025.
What Rachel Zegler said after the 2024 election
Donald Trump’s victory in the November 5, 2024, presidential election prompted Zegler to post a series of Instagram Stories expressing grief, fear, and anger about the result. Reports from Forbes, The Guardian, Salon, The Daily Beast, and other outlets said she criticized Trump and his supporters, described Trump as a threat to democracy, and used profane language while wishing that Trump, his voters, and his supporters would never know peace.

The posts were personal political reactions rather than a formal statement on behalf of Disney or a promotional message about Snow White. Because Instagram Stories disappear, subsequent coverage relied in part on screenshots and contemporaneous quotations.
Zegler’s apology
On November 15, one day after Kelly’s call for Disney to fire her, Zegler apologized publicly. She said she had allowed her emotions to get the better of her and acknowledged that anger and hatred had contributed to negative discourse. She also recognized that people had the right to hold opinions different from hers.
That wording is important. The available reporting supports describing the statement as an apology for the tone and consequences of her posts—not as a reversal of her views about Trump or the election. There is also no reliable basis for claiming that Disney’s public-relations department wrote the apology.
What Megyn Kelly demanded
On November 14, 2024, Megyn Kelly published an article on her official website arguing that Disney should fire Zegler from the live-action Snow White. Kelly also discussed the controversy on her show and used strongly insulting language about the actress.

She argued that Disney would have to redo the movie if Zegler were dismissed. Her personal descriptions of Zegler were Kelly’s opinions and rhetoric, not established facts about the actress and not an official statement from Disney.
Did Disney fire Rachel Zegler?
No. The reviewed official Disney sources show that Zegler remained the film’s lead. Disney’s film page lists her as Snow White, alongside Gal Gadot and Andrew Burnap, while a Walt Disney Company production article describes the project as starring Zegler and confirms its March 21, 2025, theatrical opening.
Rank #4
The film was therefore released with Zegler in the title role. That is the clearest documented outcome of Kelly’s demand: it was not followed, at least as far as the released film’s lead casting is concerned. The available evidence does not establish what Disney executives privately discussed or whether the controversy affected any internal public-relations strategy.
Timeline of the controversy
| Date | What happened |
|---|---|
| November 5, 2024 | Donald Trump won the U.S. presidential election and became president-elect. |
| The following week | Zegler posted Instagram Stories criticizing Trump and his supporters and expressing fear and anger about the election result. |
| November 14, 2024 | Megyn Kelly called on Disney to fire Zegler from Snow White in an article and related show coverage. |
| November 15, 2024 | Zegler apologized for contributing to negative discourse and said people had a right to differing opinions. |
| March 21, 2025 | Disney’s live-action Snow White opened in theaters with Zegler playing the title character. |
| March 25, 2025 | Disney Books listed Elizabeth Rudnick’s official 272-page live-action novelization. |
Why the comments became part of the Snow White story
Zegler’s remarks were separate from the film’s plot and production, but they became attached to the movie because she was its lead actor and the controversy unfolded while the project was still awaiting release. The film is a live-action musical reimagining of Disney’s 1937 animated Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, directed by Marc Webb and featuring original songs by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul.

The cast also includes Gal Gadot and Andrew Burnap. Disney’s original animated film remains the relevant comparison point for audiences evaluating the adaptation’s legacy, characters, and changes—not evidence that the political controversy altered the new film.
For readers interested in the adaptation beyond the on-screen release, Disney Books listed the Snow White live-action novelization by Elizabeth Rudnick. The book is a 272-page physical companion to the 2025 film, released March 25, 2025; it should be treated as a film-related reading option, not as a source explaining the election dispute.
What the evidence does—and does not—show
- It does show that Zegler posted emotional political comments after Trump’s election victory.
- It does show that she apologized the next day after Kelly’s public call for Disney to fire her.
- It does show that Disney ultimately released Snow White with Zegler in the title role.
- It does not show that Disney fired or suspended her.
- It does not show that Kelly’s statements represented Disney’s official position.
- It does not establish that Zegler’s comments caused the film’s commercial performance or changed its script, marketing plan, or release date.
The most accurate summary is straightforward: Rachel Zegler apologized for the antagonistic tone of her post-election comments, Megyn Kelly urged Disney to fire her, and Disney’s released Snow White still starred Zegler as Snow White.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Rachel Zegler apologized for contributing to hostile post-election discourse, but she did not publicly retract her political opposition to Donald Trump. Megyn Kelly called for Disney to fire her on November 14, 2024; Disney did not do so, and Zegler played Snow White when the film opened on March 21, 2025.
