There is no verified public ranking of the most expensive jewelry in Queen Elizabeth II’s collection: the Royal Collection Trust describes the jewels but does not publish appraisals or comparative prices. The most defensible answer is to look at the pieces with exceptional stones, histories and royal use—and distinguish her personal jewelry from the Crown Jewels, which are held for the nation.
Why there is no confirmed “most expensive” jewel
A jewel’s size or diamond count does not establish its monetary value. The Royal Collection Trust’s accounts document provenance, materials and use, but the cited collection pages and 2022 display announcement give no appraisal figures or official value ranking. Any price claim from elsewhere should therefore be treated as an attributed estimate, not a confirmed value for the Queen’s collection.
There is also an important ownership distinction. The Crown Jewels are ceremonial regalia held in trust for the nation, not simply jewelry privately owned by the monarch. The Trust describes them as “the most complete collection of royal regalia in the world” (Royal Collection Trust: The Crown Jewels).
The Cullinan diamonds: personal jewels and national regalia
The Cullinan Diamond was discovered in modern-day South Africa in 1905 and weighed 3,106 carats in its rough form. Royal Collection Trust says it was cut into nine large stones and 97 small brilliants after three polishers worked on it for eight months (Royal Collection Trust: Coronation Regalia).

The stones went into different objects and categories. Cullinan I is mounted in the Sovereign’s Sceptre with Cross, and Cullinan II in the Imperial State Crown; both are Crown Jewels. Cullinan III–IX became part of Elizabeth II’s personal jewelry. The Trust makes that distinction explicit: “Stones III-IX today form part of Queen Elizabeth II’s personal jewellery and are not shown here” (Royal Collection Trust: The Cullinan Diamond).
The rough stone’s carat weight and the fame of its largest cuts make the Cullinan story a natural focus in discussions of royal jewels. They do not, by themselves, establish a price or prove that any one Cullinan jewel was the most expensive in the Queen’s personal collection.

Notable jewels from Elizabeth II’s personal collection
Royal Collection Trust’s 2022 announcement of a Buckingham Palace display documents several jewels associated with Elizabeth II. These histories help explain their significance; none of the figures below is a monetary appraisal.

The Diamond Diadem: a ceremonial object, not a private tiara
The Diamond Diadem was created for George IV’s coronation in 1821 and is set with 1,333 brilliant-cut diamonds, according to the Royal Collection Trust’s 2022 announcement. Elizabeth II wore it on her coronation day and on the journey to and from the State Opening of Parliament. Its ceremonial role matters: it is a coronet associated with regalia, so it should not be treated as an ordinary privately owned tiara or ranked as personal jewelry by presumed market value.

How to read claims about the Queen’s “most expensive” jewelry
- Check the ownership category. A Crown Jewel such as Cullinan I or II is not the same thing as one of Elizabeth II’s personal Cullinan stones.
- Separate specifications from valuations. Carat weights, stone counts and documented histories describe an object; they do not reveal an appraisal.
- Look for an identified valuation source and basis. Without a named appraiser, date and stated method, a price should not be presented as confirmed.
- Use “not publicly established” when the evidence does not rank values. On the available official records, the Queen’s most expensive jewel cannot be identified with confidence.
