Puzzle Break’s Escape from Seattle: The World’s Fair Affair is a Seattle-history-themed escape room inspired by the city’s 1962 World’s Fair. Microsoft HoloLens was part of its 2018 launch, but Puzzle Break’s current listing does not confirm whether that same hardware is still used. The room remains listed in 2026 as an expert-level, 60-minute game for two to 10 players.
What is ‘The World’s Fair Affair’?
It is a physical, team-based escape room built around a fictional effort by researchers to uncover the secret of a mysterious tycoon and “save Seattle.” Puzzle Break describes it as a technology-forward experience and a love letter to Seattle history and culture. It is an adventure with a historical setting, not a museum exhibit or a comprehensive account of the World’s Fair.
The room was introduced in 2018. GeekWire’s August 30, 2018 report covered its Microsoft partnership and HoloLens technology. Puzzle Break’s current room listing still advertises the attraction, though its description now refers generally to “never-before-seen technology” rather than naming HoloLens.

Seattle’s 1962 World’s Fair, formally the Century 21 Exposition, presented a future-facing vision of science, technology and city life. The event is closely associated with the Space Needle, built for the fair. That blend of futurism and local identity gives Puzzle Break a natural backdrop for a puzzle adventure involving technology.

The historical connection should be understood as inspiration, not a claim that the room recreates the fair or teaches its history in depth. The available descriptions establish a Seattle-themed fictional story, not a historically comprehensive experience.
How did HoloLens fit into the 2018 launch?
GeekWire reported that Puzzle Break created the room in partnership with Microsoft and incorporated the Microsoft HoloLens mixed-reality headset. Puzzle Break CEO Nate Martin told the publication that Microsoft approached the company to develop the room specifically for Puzzle Break. The launch coverage also described it as the company’s most expensive room to build at that time; that is a statement about the 2018 launch, not a current cost comparison.

Mixed reality differs from virtual reality: rather than replacing the view of the physical world, a mixed-reality headset can place digital objects within the wearer’s view of their surroundings. In general, that makes it possible for digital elements to appear connected to a real room or its props. The published descriptions do not specify which clues or sequences in this particular room used HoloLens, so its exact puzzle mechanics should not be assumed.

That is not established by Puzzle Break’s current public listing. The 2018 reporting documents HoloLens at launch; the current room page confirms that the attraction remains listed but describes its technology without identifying the hardware. It is therefore accurate to say the room launched with HoloLens, but not to promise that every session in 2026 uses the original headset or software.

If HoloLens is the deciding factor, contact Puzzle Break before booking and ask what technology is currently used in the room. The current official listing is available at Puzzle Break’s room page, and its booking page provides the booking route.

As listed by Puzzle Break in 2026, the game lasts 60 minutes, is rated Expert, accepts two to 10 players and is recommended for ages eight and older. The listed venue is 2124 2nd Ave., Seattle, WA 98121. The room directory and booking information describe games as private. Check availability and the live checkout total before making plans.

These are prices displayed on Puzzle Break’s site, not a guarantee of the final amount at checkout. The FAQ conflicts with the room page for groups of three to four, so rely on the live booking total. Puzzle Break’s FAQ also cautions that having fewer players can make its rooms harder to complete, especially at higher difficulty levels.
Who is likely to enjoy it?
The Expert rating makes the room a stronger fit for experienced escape-room players, puzzle enthusiasts and groups looking for a Seattle-specific activity than for visitors seeking a gentle introduction. A pair can book, but a smaller team may have a tougher time dividing up the work. The World’s Fair theme and technology-forward presentation may also appeal to local-history and gaming fans, provided they are comfortable with an escape-room format rather than expecting a guided history experience.

- Consider another room if your group wants a low-pressure first escape game.
- Ask in advance whether the current experience requires a headset and whether glasses, mobility aids or other equipment could affect participation.
- For a larger group, confirm that the current booking options and room capacity suit your party.
Flashing lights and planning considerations
Puzzle Break warns that the room contains flashing lights that may affect photosensitive players. Its FAQ says staff ask about photosensitivity and can deactivate flashing effects if needed. Tell the venue about any concern before arrival and confirm what accommodation is available for your session.
The current public description does not detail how the room’s technology or effects compare with the 2018 launch version. If that distinction matters to your group, ask Puzzle Break directly when checking availability.
