How Bapat approached the audition
Bapat said she consciously moderated her naturally bubbly, talkative energy when auditioning for director Nagesh Kukunoor, who was casting a serious, controlled character. The interview reports that casting director Shruti Mahajan recommended Bapat to Kukunoor, who selected her after a second audition round.
Kukunoor praised her directness and willingness to take risks: “Priya is honest, and she is a fearless actress,” he said. Filmmaker Sachin Kundalkar also described her as adaptable, saying, “She is also a quick learner, and adapts readily to new challenges.”

Why she wanted to work beyond familiar boundaries
By 2019, Bapat was known for work in Marathi cinema and had also taken on Hindi projects. She said she did not want to be confined to either language or industry. “I don’t want to limit myself to Marathi, or say that I will only work in Hindi – I would love to work do a Malayalam film, for instance,” she said, adding that she would be willing to start from scratch for a good role.
Her ambition was not simply to accumulate credits. Bapat said she preferred to wait for the right script and wanted each film to be noticed: “I would rather have the patience to wait for the right script.” The interview also notes that she valued discipline and continuity learned through television work.
