The Lady Dior has not been permanently replaced: it is being reinterpreted in different ways. For Spring 2027, Who What Wear reported that the bags appeared scrunched and lived-in on the runway. Separately, Dior’s current Lady D-Joy collection offers a horizontal take on the Lady Dior. These are distinct updates to a design Dior associates with Princess Diana, not evidence of one definitive new version.
What changed in the Spring 2027 runway styling?
In its report on Dior’s Spring 2027 show, Who What Wear described the Lady Dior bags as scrunched and lived-in, with a more relaxed appearance. That is an editorial description of how the bags were styled on the runway; it does not establish a permanent change to the standard Lady Dior or confirm that the runway versions are available to buy.
The distinction matters: a seasonal runway treatment can loosen or alter the way a familiar bag looks without replacing the established design across Dior’s collection.
How the Lady Dior became associated with Princess Diana
Dior’s official account says Lady Diana was offered a Dior bag in September 1995 while visiting Paris for a Paul Cézanne retrospective at the Grand Palais. Dior says she later appeared with the bag on outings and presents it as a design reinterpreted over time. The brand’s current product language describes the Lady Dior as symbolically associated with Lady Diana.

This supports calling it Diana’s namesake bag, but it does not establish that the bag was originally designed for her. Who What Wear reports that the bag was then called the Chouchou and was renamed the Lady Dior a year after the 1995 gift; Dior’s cited account confirms the offering in 1995 but does not give that renaming date.
Lady D-Joy is a separate, horizontal reinterpretation
Dior describes the Lady D-Joy as a horizontal-format reinterpretation of the Lady Dior. Its current Lady D-Joy page lists Autumn/Winter 2026–2027 products, with variations in materials, colors, and embellishments. The D-Joy’s format is a distinct design direction from the scrunched runway styling reported for Spring 2027. One is a named horizontal silhouette in Dior’s product range; the other is a seasonal runway presentation.
Runway styling is not the same as Dior Lady Art
Dior’s seasonal shows are only one way the house revisits the bag. Christian Dior SE’s 2025 annual report says the 10th edition of Dior Lady Art invited 10 artists to reinterpret the iconic bag. This artist project is separate from a runway styling update and does not describe the number of Lady Dior designs made overall.

There is precedent for runway reinterpretation, too: a Spring/Summer 2026 show report described the Lady Dior softened into a suede bowling-bag form. That was a different season and treatment, not the Spring 2027 scrunched look.
