Prince Harry met his father, King Charles III, at Clarence House on September 10, 2025, in their first known face-to-face encounter in 19 months. The private tea was a cautious sign of renewed contact—not confirmed proof that the family rift had ended.
Prince Harry met his father, King Charles III, privately at Clarence House in London on Wednesday, September 10, 2025. The meeting was described as a private tea and lasted roughly 54 minutes, or nearly an hour according to other reports.
It was the first known face-to-face meeting between the two men in 19 months. The encounter marked a cautious reopening of contact after a prolonged family and legal dispute, but there is no public evidence that it amounted to a full reconciliation—or that it resolved Harry’s disagreements with the wider royal family.
What happened at Clarence House?
Harry, the Duke of Sussex, met King Charles at Clarence House, the King’s London residence. Buckingham Palace confirmed the private tea, while major news organizations including the Associated Press, The Guardian and The Washington Post reported the meeting and its approximate duration.

The meeting took place during Harry’s four-day visit to the United Kingdom. His trip included charity and public-interest engagements connected with the Invictus community and blast-injury research.
Because the meeting was private, the palace did not disclose what the father and son discussed. There was no official announcement of a new agreement, a further meeting, or a change in the relationship between Harry and other members of the royal family.
Why the meeting was significant
The 19-month gap was significant in itself. Harry’s previous known in-person meeting with Charles occurred in February 2024, shortly after Buckingham Palace announced that the King had been diagnosed with cancer.
Harry had traveled to Britain after the announcement and saw his father briefly. Since then, the relationship had remained the subject of intense public attention, particularly because Harry had spoken openly about his family and his disagreements with the institution of the monarchy.
The September meeting also followed a public expression of regret and a desire for peace. In a BBC interview broadcast on May 2, 2025, Harry said that he wanted reconciliation with his family. He also said that Charles was not speaking with him in the context of a dispute over Harry’s security arrangements when he visits the United Kingdom.

That sequence gives the meeting clear emotional and political significance: Harry had publicly said he wanted to stop fighting with his family, and he subsequently met his father in person. The available facts support describing the encounter as a possible thaw or tentative step toward renewed contact. They do not support declaring that the family feud was over.
The King’s health was part of the background
On February 5, 2024, Buckingham Palace announced that diagnostic tests had identified a form of cancer in King Charles. The palace did not disclose the type of cancer or provide detailed medical information. It said that Charles remained positive about his treatment and looked forward to returning to public duties.
Harry’s February 2024 visit followed that announcement, which is why reports identify it as the starting point for the 19-month interval before the September 2025 meeting.

However, the King’s diagnosis should not be used to speculate about either man’s private conversation or Charles’s current medical condition. The palace’s statement did not establish a prognosis, and the September tea was not documented in enough detail to support claims about the King’s health or treatment.
How Harry’s security dispute fits into the story
Harry’s security arrangements in the United Kingdom were an important part of the public backdrop. He had challenged decisions concerning the level of publicly funded protection available to him when visiting Britain. In May 2025, after losing an appeal, he discussed the issue in his BBC interview and connected it with the breakdown in communication with his father.

The legal dispute and the personal relationship should nevertheless be treated as separate issues. Reporting does not establish that King Charles personally controlled the court’s decision. Nor does it show that the Clarence House meeting produced a legal settlement, changed Harry’s formal security arrangements, or ended the litigation.
The safest conclusion is that the security dispute contributed to the strain surrounding the relationship. Nothing publicly confirmed shows that it was resolved during the private tea.

Does this mean Harry has returned to the royal family?
No. A private meeting with his father is meaningful, but it is not evidence that Harry has returned to the royal fold or resumed an official working role.
The word “reunites” accurately describes a long-awaited in-person encounter between father and son. It becomes misleading if it is taken to mean that every dispute has been settled. The meeting’s substance remains private, and there is no confirmed announcement about Harry’s future role, his relationship with Prince William, or his place in the working monarchy.
It is also important not to treat contact between Charles and Harry as proof of reconciliation with the wider family. The two relationships are related but not identical. A conversation with the King cannot establish what Harry’s current relationship is with William, Queen Camilla, or other members of the family.

Harry’s public account of the family rift
For readers trying to understand the history behind the meeting, Spare offers Harry’s own account of his life, his family relationships and his experience as a member of the royal family. Prince Harry’s memoir Spare is available in formats listed by its publisher, including hardcover, paperback, large-print, audiobook and CD editions.

It may help explain why the encounter attracted such attention, but it cannot reveal the contents of a conversation that the palace kept private.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.A cautious reading of the reunion
The most defensible interpretation is that the Clarence House tea reopened a channel of contact between Harry and Charles. It came after a long period without a known in-person meeting, after a serious disagreement over security, and after Harry publicly said that he wanted reconciliation.
That makes the event more than a routine family visit. At the same time, the public record stops short of showing a durable settlement. There are no confirmed details about an agreement, no evidence that the security dispute was resolved, and no announcement that relations with the wider royal family have been repaired.
For now, the meeting is best described as a cautious step: significant because it happened, but deliberately limited in what it allows the public to conclude.
