Blumhouse describes the series as a six-episode story, while Prime Video classifies it as a comedy-drama and lists six episodes in its first season.
The hook is the collision of rural maple production and a criminal operation: the prize is a reserve of syrup, not the more familiar cash or jewels. Ruth’s practical stake in the syrup, the mobster’s temper, and the guard’s contrasting manner give the crew its offbeat dynamic. That unusual target and mismatched team are what make the premise feel like a particularly quirky caper.
Is The Sticky based on a true story?
It is inspired by the Great Canadian Maple Syrup Heist, a real theft from Quebec’s maple syrup reserves in 2011–12. The historical case supplies the premise, but the series fictionalizes its characters and dramatized events. Ruth Landry, Mike Byrne, and Remy Bouchard are not established as real participants; do not read the show’s plot as a factual account of who carried out the theft or how it unfolded.
The reported value also varies by source and wording. Prime Video’s 2024 announcement, distributed via CNW, says more than $18 million worth of syrup was stolen. TheWrap’s 2024 account puts the value at about C$18.7 million. Those descriptions indicate a similar scale, but they are not interchangeable currency figures.

How does the show turn the real theft into comedy?
The real case provides a striking foundation, but the series is a fictional comedy-drama rather than a documentary reconstruction. As co-creator Brian Donovan put it to TheWrap, “The real crime was pretty boring.” His remark helps explain the adaptation’s approach: the show shapes its premise around an eccentric crew and a comic-crime setup rather than promising a scene-by-scene retelling of the theft.
Prime Video lists Margo Martindale, Chris Diamantopoulos, and Guillaume Cyr among the cast. The available descriptions establish the show’s premise and genre, but do not support treating it as a historically precise account or making claims about how closely particular scenes follow the case.
