Pornhub launched “Pornhub Sex Ed,” an 11-video sexual-education series in late October 2020. The company’s formal press release was dated November 2, 2020. The initial videos addressed anatomy, preparing for sex, communication, masturbation, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), condom use, and safer sex during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The project was presented through Pornhub’s Sexual Wellness Center and narrated, according to Pornhub’s announcement, by licensed sex therapists and PhDs including Dr. Laurie Betito. It was an attempt by a pornography platform to provide educational material around questions that pornography and popular culture may portray inaccurately. It was not presented as an accredited school curriculum, a clinical service, or a peer-reviewed educational intervention.
When did Pornhub Sex Ed launch?
Public announcements placed the launch on October 29–30, 2020. Pornhub’s formal company-distributed announcement appeared on November 2, 2020. The most precise description is therefore: Pornhub Sex Ed launched in late October 2020, with the formal press release issued on November 2.

The series grew out of Pornhub’s Sexual Wellness Center, which the company said it launched in 2017. That center hosted sexual-health articles by doctors, counselors, and community leaders covering biological and social aspects of sexual life. Pornhub framed the video series as an extension of that existing information hub rather than simply as a new entertainment feature.
What did the 11 videos cover?
Pornhub’s launch materials described the first 11 videos as covering several basic areas of sexual health:
- Anatomy: introductory information about male and female anatomy.
- Preparing for sex: practical considerations before sexual activity.
- Communication: talking with a partner about sex and sexual experiences.
- Masturbation: including what the company described as healthy masturbation habits.
- STIs: introductory information about sexually transmitted infections.
- Condom use: coverage of barrier protection and safer-sex practices.
- Sex during COVID-19: guidance related to reducing risk during the pandemic.
- Questions about what is normal: contemporary coverage described an episode addressing normal variation for people with a penis.
The launch sources described the videos as short, visual explainers using real anatomy and human examples. The format was intended to answer common questions directly rather than provide a long-form medical course. However, the available launch reporting does not establish that every possible sexual-health subject was addressed or that the series was comprehensive.

Who narrated the series?
Pornhub said the videos were narrated by licensed sex therapists and people holding PhDs, including Dr. Laurie Betito, who was identified at the time as director of the Sexual Wellness Center. That supports describing the launch as expert-narrated according to Pornhub’s announcement.
It does not support a stronger claim that every statement was independently reviewed by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a government health agency, or a professional medical association. The distinction matters: the sources establish who Pornhub said was involved, but they do not provide an independent review of each episode’s medical accuracy.
Why did Pornhub create a sex-education series?
Pornhub’s stated rationale was that people can encounter sexual imagery through pornography and popular culture that dramatizes or distorts real sex. The company said the Sexual Wellness Center wanted to provide safety information and visual answers to common questions about sexual experiences.

That is an account of the platform’s purpose, not independent evidence that the videos achieved their educational goals. No evaluation establishing the series’ effect on knowledge, behavior, or sexual-health outcomes was located in the reviewed launch sources. The sources also do not establish the audience’s demographics, whether the videos were used in formal education, or how long the complete series remained available.
What the series should—and should not—be used for
A pornography platform can acknowledge that pornography is not a reliable depiction of ordinary sexual relationships and still not become a substitute for formal sex education. Pornographic material is generally designed for entertainment and fantasy, while effective sexual-health education also needs to address consent, communication, contraception, STI prevention, sexual orientation and gender identity, body diversity, coercion, healthcare access, and age-appropriate decision-making.
For that reason, “Pornhub Sex Ed” is best understood as a platform initiative responding to an information gap—not as proof that pornography is a trustworthy default source of sexual-health advice and not as a replacement for qualified healthcare or evidence-based educational providers.
Rank #4
What independent health guidance says about condoms and STI prevention
The CDC provides the appropriate independent context for the series’ safer-sex topics. Correct and consistent condom use can reduce the risk of STIs and pregnancy, but it does not eliminate risk. Condoms offer less protection against infections spread through uncovered skin-to-skin contact.
CDC guidance also recommends using a new condom for every act of vaginal, anal, or oral sex. With latex condoms, oil-based lubricants can weaken the material; a water-based lubricant is the safer compatibility choice. Many STIs cause no symptoms, so testing and honest communication about status remain important even when barriers are used.
Barriers can also reduce risk during oral sex. Depending on the activity, that may include condoms or dental dams. These measures reduce risk; they do not make transmission impossible.
What is not known about Pornhub Sex Ed?
- Effectiveness: no independently verified learning-outcome or behavior-change evaluation was identified.
- Comprehensiveness: the launch description does not justify calling the series a complete sex-education curriculum.
- Independent review: the announcement identifies expert narrators but does not establish government or professional-association approval of every video.
- Current availability: the 2020 launch sources do not reliably confirm which episodes, if any, remain publicly accessible or whether the series has since changed.
- Audience and impact: the reviewed material does not provide independently verified information about who watched the videos or what they learned.

Bottom line
Pornhub Sex Ed was a real 2020 initiative: an 11-video, expert-narrated series covering anatomy, preparation, communication, masturbation, STIs, condoms, and safer sex during COVID-19. Its significance lies partly in the unusual choice of a major pornography platform to address the gap between sexual imagery and real-world sexual knowledge. But the available evidence supports describing what Pornhub launched—not claiming that it replaced formal sex education, was medically comprehensive, or had proven educational results.
