Spoilers for Poppy Playtime: Chapter 5 — Broken Things. The chapter ends with the Prototype taking Poppy and the protagonist left gravely injured. After Giblet revives the player character and they reach Data Storage in search of a Backup, Harley Sawyer’s Backup activates—leaving the rescue, the protagonist’s survival, and Harley’s intentions unresolved.
What happens at the end of Chapter 5?
The ending accounts identify the final sequence as a defeat followed by a cliffhanger, not a completed escape. The event-by-event details come from an unofficial fan guide and a secondary recap, rather than an official transcript; the official chapter page establishes the premise and release context, not the ending’s interpretation.

The escape is interrupted. The ending guide says Huggy Wuggy and Kissy Missy reunite before the Prototype attacks. The account does not confirm what happens to either character afterward.

The Prototype takes Poppy. The recap says Giblet reports that the Prototype has taken her. The cited accounts do not show what happens to Poppy after she is taken.

Giblet revives the protagonist. The player character is gravely injured and placed in Poppy Gel. The guide says Giblet removes the protagonist and uses an electrical shock, after which the protagonist survives. It does not explain the biological or technical reason this works.

They head to Data Storage. Giblet and the protagonist are looking for a Backup, shifting the immediate goal from escape to finding information or help.

Harley Sawyer’s Backup activates. The guide and secondary recap identify the final reveal as Harley Sawyer’s Backup. The accounts do not establish what it remembers, wants, or will do.
What happens to Poppy?
The ending accounts say the Prototype takes Poppy. They leave her immediate fate unresolved; the scene is a loss for the protagonists, not a confirmed account of what the Prototype plans to do with her.

Who is the Backup, and is Harley an ally?
The reveal is identified as Harley Sawyer’s Backup activating in Data Storage. That label does not settle whether the Backup is an ally or an antagonist, whether it has the same memories as the Harley Sawyer known previously, or whether it is a copy with its own agenda. Those are possibilities, not answers established by the scene.
Did the player really survive?
In the ending guide’s account, yes: Giblet shocks the protagonist after removing them from Poppy Gel, and the protagonist survives. The sequence does not explain how the revival works, nor does it establish that the protagonist is nonhuman, a toy, or an experiment. Treating it as proof of any of those identities goes beyond what the scene explains.

Not established by this ending: a Chapter 6 title, release date, or official announcement. Mob Entertainment’s Chapter 5 page and the Steam listing provide Chapter 5 information, not confirmation of a next chapter.
Why the ending feels like a cliffhanger
The sequence worsens the protagonists’ position rather than resolving the main danger: Poppy has been taken, the Prototype remains active in the recap, and the search for a Backup ends with Harley Sawyer’s activation instead of a clear rescue or explanation. The scene leaves several story questions open without proving what the answers will be.
Mob Entertainment calls the fifth chapter Broken Things and dates its release to February 18, 2026. The studio describes a descent into the factory and the Prototype’s domain, with Huggy Wuggy in pursuit, new GrabPack tools, and buried company secrets. The official chapter page provides that premise; Steam lists Chapter 5 as downloadable content requiring the free Poppy Playtime base game.
