When did Pokémon Legends: Z-A come out?
Pokémon Legends: Z-A launched on 16 October 2025. The title’s “late 2025” release window is now historical, not a future launch estimate. Nintendo announced that date for both the Nintendo Switch game and the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition in its release announcement.

What is Pokémon Legends: Z-A about?
The adventure takes place in Lumiose City, the Kalos city introduced in Pokémon X and Pokémon Y. The city is undergoing redevelopment intended to help people and Pokémon coexist. Wild Zones provide places to encounter wild Pokémon; after dark, a Battle Zone opens for the Z-A Royale, a tournament that runs from sundown to dawn. The player works toward the top A rank alongside a companion, according to Nintendo’s announcement.
Nintendo UK describes the game as an action, adventure, and role-playing game. Its product information highlights exploration, Mega Evolution, and real-time battles against Trainers. The listing supports single-system play for one player and local wireless or online play for two to four players: Nintendo UK product page.

Which edition should you get?
The practical choice depends on which console you use and whether you already own the Switch game. Nintendo offers the original Switch software and a separate Switch 2 Edition; the latter uses the newer console’s capabilities for improved graphics and frame rates. Nintendo outlines the editions and upgrade option in its release announcement.

The Switch 2 Edition can also run on Nintendo Switch, but on that console its content matches the Switch software and it does not use Switch 2 performance features. If you already own the Switch game, the upgrade pack is the route Nintendo provides; it is distinct from buying the base game again. Check Nintendo’s edition and upgrade details before choosing.

What are the upgrade pack and Mega Dimension DLC?
They are separate add-ons with different purposes. The Switch 2 Edition Upgrade Pack improves performance, resolution, and frame rates on Switch 2; Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Mega Dimension is additional story content. Nintendo Support lists Mega Dimension as compatible with both the original game and the Switch 2 Edition, and requires ownership of the base game to play it: Nintendo Support: Pokémon Legends: Z-A DLC and upgrade information.
Nintendo Support lists Holo-X and Holo-Y apparel items as available from 16 October 2025, and additional story content—including Mega Stones for Mega Raichu X and Mega Raichu Y—as available from 9 December 2025. For downloads, Nintendo UK says players need the game, a Nintendo Account, and broadband; additional storage may be needed. If storage is required, Nintendo identifies a compatible microSD card for Switch or a compatible microSD Express card for Switch 2 as options: Nintendo UK product and DLC information.
