Peter Stormare returned as The Replacer in a reported series of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 commercials before the game’s October 25, 2024 release. The first 60-second spot reportedly debuted during Sunday Football on September 29, and the campaign grew to more than 30 unique ads, according to Windows Central.
Who is The Replacer in the Black Ops 6 ads?
The Replacer is a recurring Call of Duty advertising character played by Stormare. The comic premise is straightforward: he steps in to handle someone else’s job or obligation so that person can take time to play the game. Windows Central reports that Stormare first played him in marketing for 2013’s Black Ops 2, then returned for Black Ops 3 and Black Ops 4. The character was absent from Black Ops: Cold War marketing before the reported 2024 return.
What happened in the Black Ops 6 campaign?
Windows Central reported that the opening 60-second commercial debuted on September 29, 2024, during Sunday Football, less than a month before the game’s October 25 release. The campaign eventually included more than 30 unique spots. Those counts, timing and character details are reported by Windows Central; Activision’s official game pages do not confirm the advertising campaign.
The Replacer takes over everyday roles
The ads put him in the place of people with responsibilities to leave behind. Windows Central describes him appearing as a firefighter, ride-share driver and street vendor, as well as the Pope. In the opening dinner scenario, he arrives to take over so another person can go play. The humor comes from treating a brief gaming break as important enough to require an implausibly capable substitute.

The campaign also brought back The Replacer’s black muscle car, updated with orange details and Black Ops 6 Cerberus-head branding, according to Windows Central. These visual touches connected the returning character to the new release while preserving the campaign’s established identity.
How the ads related to Black Ops 6
The Replacer’s role was to free people from ordinary duties so they could play Black Ops 6. That advertising premise was separate from the game’s story and playable content: Windows Central reported no indication at the time that Stormare would return as a playable operator. The available reporting establishes a commercial campaign, not an in-game appearance.

Activision lists Black Ops 6 as a first-person shooter released October 25, 2024, for PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X|S, Microsoft PC Store, Steam, Battle.net, and eligible Game Pass plans. Its official page describes three main modes: Campaign, Multiplayer and round-based Zombies. Activision’s Campaign overview places the story in the early 1990s, amid the Gulf War and the political transition after the Cold War. The reported first ad appeared on September 29, with the game scheduled to launch October 25. In an October 17 prelaunch update, Activision said preload would begin October 21 at 9 a.m. PT. The company also explained that most platforms treated Black Ops 6 and Warzone as separate downloads and let players manage installed titles and modes (Activision’s preload and UI update).
