Her background spans screen, stage and live music. PerthNow said she appeared in the children’s television program Ship to Shore, competed briefly on Australian Idol in 2003 at age 22, performed at Perth pubs including The Aberdeen and Sail and Anchor, and acted in productions including Hairspray and Matilda. Why did Cle Morgan audition for The Voice?
Morgan told PerthNow that she auditioned after her wife died about two and a half years earlier. She hoped to move through grief, feel good and try something different; she did not expect to make the final. As she put it: “I’m a bit lost for words, actually, because I really only went on the show to just feel good and move through grief and do something different to what I was doing.”

She also spoke about the challenge and encouragement she found along the way: “I’ve challenged myself in so many ways that I wouldn’t even be able to name, and the village that has gathered around me has been extraordinary.” Her story was not only about loss: Morgan said returning to music and the stage helped her rediscover how much she enjoyed performing. 7NEWS quoted her saying, “I didn’t even realise how happy it made me until I stood on the stage again, I’d just forgotten.”
Morgan credited coach Ronan Keating with understanding her grief. “I’m just forever grateful for Ronan turning around for me. And we connected through grief, and he understands it, so it was just nice to be nurtured in that way. And, yeah, we were a really beautiful team,” she told PerthNow. 7NEWS also reported that Morgan said the support of her three children helped her step outside her comfort zone. 7NEWS’s finalist coverage includes her account of returning to the stage.
