Perplexity AI has not merged with Microsoft Copilot. Samsung is offering both as separate services inside its Vision AI Companion ecosystem, alongside Samsung’s Bixby. On supported TVs, you choose the app or assistant you want; Perplexity does not power Copilot, and the announcement does not make them one combined product.
Microsoft announced Copilot for select Samsung TVs and monitors on August 27, 2025. Samsung introduced Vision AI Companion on September 4, 2025, and announced its standalone Perplexity TV App on October 21, 2025. Samsung’s 2026 announcements continue to describe the two services separately.
What Samsung’s Vision AI Companion actually is
Vision AI Companion is Samsung’s umbrella experience for conversational and visual AI on compatible displays. It can bring together Samsung features and services from other companies:
- Bixby: Samsung’s own voice assistant and conversational layer.
- Microsoft Copilot: A standalone general-purpose assistant focused on voice interaction, discovery and planning.
- Perplexity: A standalone answer-engine app for research-style questions and follow-up exploration.

Perplexity versus Copilot on a Samsung TV

These are product-positioning differences, not proof that one service is always more accurate. Samsung and Microsoft have not established a universal quality ranking between them.
What Perplexity can do on the TV
Samsung says the Perplexity TV App is designed for a large shared display. Its cards can support:
- Movie and entertainment discovery.
- Questions about films, actors and directors.
- Trip planning and everyday questions.
- Recommendations followed by additional questions.
- General information searches presented in a visual format.
Samsung’s examples include finding films directed by the Russo Brothers, planning a trip and creating a fantasy-sports lineup. You can submit a question by voice, with the on-screen keyboard or with a USB keyboard. The launch announcement is available at Samsung Newsroom.
What Copilot can do on the TV

Microsoft announced the TV experience as free at launch on supported Samsung TVs and monitors. That does not include Microsoft 365 Copilot, Copilot Pro or enterprise productivity features. Those are separate products and terms. Read the launch details at Microsoft’s Copilot blog.
Which Samsung TVs support the apps?
Availability depends on the exact model, year, country, software version and sometimes the input source. A “Vision AI” label in an advertisement is not confirmation that both apps are installed on a particular television.

How to launch Copilot
- Open the Samsung TV home interface.
- Enter the Apps tab in Samsung Daily+.
- Launch Copilot.
- Press the microphone button on a compatible Samsung remote.
- If prompted, scan the QR code to connect a Microsoft account.
- Ask your question and review the voice-and-visual response.

How to launch Perplexity
- Open the TV’s Apps tab.
- Select Perplexity TV App, or open it through Vision AI Companion.
- Accept the applicable terms.
- Grant microphone permission if you want voice input.
- Ask a question by voice, type with the on-screen keyboard or connect a USB keyboard.
- Review the resulting visual cards and any follow-up options.
On some Samsung remotes, pressing the dedicated AI button opens Vision AI Companion. On remotes without that button, Samsung UK says a long press of Home can open it. Labels and controls vary by country, model, software and remote; see Samsung’s support page.
Accounts, permissions and privacy
These are network services, not anonymous offline features. Samsung indicates that a Samsung account may be needed for smart services, while Copilot and Perplexity can require their own account sign-in, terms acceptance or consent. Microphone permission is required for voice input.
Samsung also warns that AI inputs and queries may be recorded and shared with third-party providers. On a shared screen, avoid entering passwords, confidential work information, health details or other private questions. Voice requests can also be heard by people in the room. Samsung states that users must be at least 18 for certain viewing-information and AI-related functions.
Does the TV know what you are watching?
Only in limited, qualified situations. Samsung says contextual answers can be available for Samsung TV Plus, antenna input and selected HDMI content. That does not mean Perplexity or Copilot can automatically inspect every Netflix, Disney+, YouTube, game-console or HDMI session. Support varies by source, app and configuration.

Promotion and subscription caveats
Samsung’s October 2025 launch announcement included a free 12-month Perplexity Pro offer for eligible users who redeemed it through the TV app’s QR code. That was a launch promotion, not a guaranteed offer everywhere in 2026. Eligibility, country, expiration and redemption rules can change, and a trial may convert to a paid plan under the current terms.
Samsung’s later Vision AI materials refer to both free and subscription-based service tiers without establishing one universal current price. Check the redemption screen and the official Perplexity site before signing up. Microsoft described Copilot as free on supported Samsung TVs at launch; Microsoft account features and separate paid Copilot products have their own terms. Common problems and practical checks
The app is missing
- Confirm the exact model number, model year and country setting.
- Install the latest TV software update.
- Search the Apps tab for both app names.
- Check Samsung’s regional support page rather than relying on a generic Vision AI description.
- Remember that a 2025 model can still differ by market, variant or software release.
Voice input does not work
- Check microphone permission and remote batteries.
- Use the on-screen keyboard or a USB keyboard with Perplexity if you do not want to enable the microphone.
- Language, account region, room noise and microphone quality can affect recognition.
The answer seems wrong or too certain
AI-generated cards can be incomplete or incorrect. For current news, prices, sports, travel or product availability, inspect the dates and sources. Do not use either service as a substitute for professional medical, legal, financial or emergency advice.
Should you buy a Samsung TV for these AI features?
If you already own a Samsung TV
Update the software and check the Apps tab before considering new hardware. The fastest test is whether your exact television exposes Perplexity or Copilot in your region and whether your remote supports the needed microphone or AI shortcut.

If you are shopping for a new TV
Confirm app support for the exact model, market and software version. Also consider whether the services work with your preferred inputs, whether you accept the account and privacy requirements, and whether the remote is comfortable for voice use.
Picture quality, viewing angle, gaming performance and the TV operating system should remain the primary buying criteria. AI availability can change through firmware updates, so it is a weak reason by itself to pay a large premium. Samsung’s TV marketplace is at Samsung.com.
Bottom line
Samsung is turning compatible TVs into a multi-service AI interface. Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot sit alongside Bixby within Vision AI Companion, but they remain separate apps with different interaction styles and account ecosystems. They are useful for shared-screen discovery, recommendations and general questions, yet availability is model- and region-specific, contextual viewing support is limited, and privacy and accuracy caveats matter. Check the app on your exact TV before treating the feature as a reason to upgrade.
