The decision leaves Peacemaker’s fate unresolved and sets up a larger DCU story.
What happens at the end of “Full Nelson”?
Rick Flag Sr. sends Peacemaker to Salvation as its first prisoner. The act is driven by revenge for Peacemaker killing Flag Sr.’s son, Rick Flag Jr. Rather than resolving that history, the finale makes it the basis of a new conflict and leaves the consequences of Flag Sr.’s choice—and Peacemaker’s fate—open.

TheWrap’s finale coverage and discussion with James Gunn describe the revenge turn and the Salvation setup. The episode’s final move works as a cliffhanger because it changes Peacemaker’s circumstances without showing what happens to him next.
What do Salvation and Checkmate mean for the DCU?
The ending points beyond the immediate Peacemaker story. TheWrap reports that Gunn sees both Salvation and Checkmate as elements with a substantial future in the DCU, rather than details that matter only to this finale. Salvation is the direct consequence of Flag Sr.’s decision; Checkmate is another future-facing thread raised by the coverage.

For readers interested in the comics background, TheWrap identifies Action Comics #598 as Checkmate’s comics debut. That is a possible starting point for context, not a claim that the series’ future will follow that issue’s story.
Does the cliffhanger feel like a satisfying ending?
The finale combines some closure with new storylines, but Flag Sr.’s betrayal and the abrupt move into the Salvation cliffhanger may feel disruptive. That is a matter of critical response, not a further plot fact: The A.V. Club’s recap notes the shift, and Rotten Tomatoes’ episode page reflects mixed reactions to the turn and cliffhanger. Viewers who wanted the season to settle its central relationships may find the open ending frustrating; viewers focused on the DCU’s next stories may see the unresolved fate as the point.
