The episode’s Superman-universe cameo is Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor—not Superman himself. While Rick Flag Sr. recruits Lex to help locate Peacemaker across dimensional rifts, Chris’s supposed ideal second life is revealed to be Earth-X, a Nazi-ruled reality. Between those plot turns, Chris tells Emilia Harcourt he loves her, giving the hour its most intimate moment.
What happens in “Ignorance Is Chris”?
The sixth episode of Peacemaker Season 2, released September 25, 2025, moves on two tracks: Flag tries to find Peacemaker, and Chris’s alternate life loses its comforting surface. The episode links those large-scale developments with a more vulnerable exchange between Chris and Harcourt.
Why does Rick Flag Sr. approach Lex Luthor?
With Peacemaker missing beyond a dimensional divide, Flag goes to Belle Reve to ask Lex Luthor for help tracking him. Lex, played by Nicholas Hoult, is serving a 265-year sentence, according to TV Insider. Flag offers to transfer him to a prison without metahumans in exchange for cooperation, and Lex eventually agrees offscreen. The deal makes the encounter more than a cameo: Flag needs Lex’s specialized knowledge, despite their history.
It is Lex—not Superman—who appears. The distinction matters in the post-Superman context: the episode expands the connection through a character with his own relationship to Flag, rather than bringing Superman into the story. In a September 2025 interview with TheWrap, James Gunn said the Lex–Flag relationship has implications for Man of Tomorrow; that is Gunn’s description of the connection at the time, not a guarantee of specific future plot details.

What is the alt-universe twist?
Chris’s alternate world initially looks like the life he wishes he had, including his father and brother being alive. The apparent refuge is exposed as Earth-X, a Nazi-dominated reality. The change reframes the world’s promise as something dangerous rather than a simple escape.
The episode’s closing sequence makes that danger immediate for Adebayo: TV Insider reports a swastika flag and a pursuing crowd. The reveal establishes the nature of the society and puts Adebayo in peril; it does not, by itself, settle every question about how the characters will escape or what Earth-X means for the rest of the season.

TheWrap’s Earth-X explainer points to The Multiversity: Mastermen as a DC Comics story about a Nazi-dominated world. That is useful background for the name, but the episode’s setting should not be treated as a confirmed direct adaptation of that comic.
Why does Chris tell Harcourt he loves her?
The episode’s emotional counterweight to its dimensional stakes is Chris’s conversation with Harcourt. He tells her he loves her. She calls herself a nightmare, and he answers, “I still love you.” Gunn told TheWrap that this exchange was his favorite beat in the episode. He also said Harcourt wants Chris back on Earth and needs him, giving her vulnerability a practical stake in the search.

How does the episode fit after Superman?
Gunn described Peacemaker to TV Insider as “a continuation of Superman, but it’s also for adults.” The connection is visible here through Lex and Flag, as well as the show’s larger dimensional plot. It is best read narrowly: the cameo and Gunn’s comments establish a link, not a promise that every detail from earlier seasons remains unchanged.
Continuity has shifted since Peacemaker first arrived in 2022. TV Insider reports that the second-season premiere retconned the former Justice League cameo to Gunn’s Justice Gang. DC’s background page also directs readers to the official Peacemaker podcast for Gunn’s explanations of canon. Those details help explain why the current season’s place in the DC Universe should be understood through its updated continuity rather than assumed unchanged.
