The series is Pantheon, an adult animated science-fiction drama—not a movie. Paul Dano voices Caspian Keyes, one of its central characters. As of August 18, 2026, Netflix lists the series in the U.S.; availability varies by country.
What is Pantheon?
Created by Craig Silverstein and listed by Netflix as a 2022 series, Pantheon adapts ideas from Ken Liu’s short-story collection The Hidden Girl and Other Stories. Its spoiler-light premise follows teenagers whose personal lives become entangled with a revolutionary technology and its human costs. Netflix classifies it as sci-fi, adult animation and a TV drama.

Dano voices Caspian Keyes, a gifted teenager caught up in the story’s technological and social upheaval. He is part of an ensemble that includes Katie Chang and Aaron Eckhart; Dano did not create the series. The Netflix listing provides the cast and synopsis.
What does the series mean by AI?
Pantheon is not primarily a robot-uprising story or a drama about consumer chatbots. Its speculative engine is technology that can upload or reproduce human consciousness. That premise turns questions about artificial intelligence into questions about people: if a mind is copied into digital form, is it the original person, a new conscious being, or a convincing replica?

The show follows the consequences beyond the technical thought experiment. Who can scan, alter or use a mind? Who owns the infrastructure that sustains it? Could digital existence offer a form of survival while creating new dependencies and vulnerabilities? The story also brings these questions into families and relationships, where grief, consent and the desire to keep someone close carry immediate weight.
That makes the series’ take on humanity’s future with AI more specific—and more unsettling—than a simple warning about machines becoming hostile. It imagines powerful non-biological intelligences, but also examines the people and institutions that build, control and profit from the technology. It is speculative fiction, not a technical forecast.

Why do some viewers call it a masterpiece?
“Masterpiece” is a judgment, not an objective label or proof of unanimous acclaim. The case for the praise is easy to understand: Pantheon combines intimate family drama with large-scale questions about identity, inequality, autonomy and digital immortality. Animation also lets it depict technological spaces and forms of existence that might be difficult to realize in live action.
The trade-off is that this is cerebral, serialized science fiction, not a quick action show. Its world-building and ideas ask for attention. Viewers looking for a simple good-versus-evil AI plot may find it denser than expected; those who enjoy ambitious animated sci-fi may find that ambition the point.

Is Pantheon streaming on Netflix?
The U.S. Netflix listing was live on August 18, 2026. That does not mean the series is available everywhere: Netflix catalogs differ by country, and regional pages can show a title’s details even when playback is unavailable there. For example, Netflix’s Japan listing showed the title as unavailable. Catalogs can also change over time.
If it does not appear for you, search Netflix for Pantheon and check that the result is the animated sci-fi series featuring Katie Chang, Paul Dano and Aaron Eckhart. A child-restricted profile may also limit what appears. Confirm availability in your own account and region rather than relying on a generic title page.

Choose Pantheon if you want serious animated science fiction about consciousness, digital identity and power, with human relationships at its center. Go in expecting a layered, unfolding story rather than a standalone film, a comedy or a fast-paced thriller. Dano’s contribution is voice acting, not an on-screen performance.

Don’t confuse it with Spaceman
Another Netflix sci-fi title featuring Dano is Spaceman, a 2024 live-action film in which he voices the alien Hanuš.
