U.S. plans and prices, checked August 9, 2026: Paramount+ Essential costs $8.99 per month or $89.99 per year. Paramount+ Premium costs $13.99 per month or $139.99 per year, before applicable taxes.
Essential is the better value if you mainly want Paramount+ originals, movies, next-day CBS shows, selected sports, and a large on-demand library. Premium is worth the extra $5 per month if you need your local live CBS station, all SHOWTIME programming, offline downloads, select 4K/HDR titles, or ad-free on-demand viewing. Neither plan removes advertisements from live TV, and both support up to three simultaneous streams.
These prices reflect Paramount’s U.S. price change that took effect for new subscribers on January 15, 2026. Existing subscribers affected by a price increase should receive 30 days’ notice. Check Paramount’s official price-change notice and the checkout screen for the amount that applies to your account.

The annual Essential plan saves approximately $17.89 compared with 12 monthly payments. Annual Premium saves approximately $27.89 compared with paying monthly for a year. Both annual options save roughly 16.6% against 12 monthly payments, but the annual fee is charged upfront.
Paramount subscriptions automatically renew at the then-current price, plus applicable taxes, unless you cancel or change the subscription before renewal. A price shown in an old comparison article may no longer be accurate; Paramount’s January 2026 pricing notice supersedes older U.S. prices such as $7.99 and $12.99 monthly.
Essential vs. Premium: the real differences

The extra Premium fee primarily pays for five things: fewer interruptions during on-demand viewing, local live CBS, the complete SHOWTIME catalog, downloads, and select premium video formats. It does not increase the U.S. simultaneous-stream limit from three to four. International Paramount+ plans can use different names and limits, so do not apply this table outside the United States. Paramount’s official comparison has the current U.S. feature details.
What does ad-free mean on Premium?
Premium is best described as ad-free for on-demand shows and movies, not completely commercial-free. Live TV uses a broadcast-style feed and still contains advertising. Paramount also says its plans may include trailers, sponsorships, or similar promotional material. If your main goal is to eliminate every interruption, Premium will not do that for live channels or live events.
What Paramount+ Essential includes
Essential is the lower-priced plan and includes Paramount’s core streaming catalog. Paramount advertises more than 40,000 full episodes and movies, although catalog size and individual titles can change.
Essential includes:
- Paramount+ original series and movies.
- CBS programming, generally including episodes made available after their broadcast window.
- CBS News 24/7 and CBS Sports HQ.
- About 20 live curated channels.
- Sports feeds for offerings such as NFL on CBS, UEFA Champions League, UFC, and Zuffa Boxing, subject to event, market, and feed availability.
- Select SHOWTIME series, but not the complete SHOWTIME library.
- Up to six profiles, including kids’ profiles.
- A My List or watchlist feature.
- Up to three simultaneous streams.
The most important omission is the viewer’s local live CBS station. Essential may still show certain sports through separate live feeds, so the absence of the local CBS station does not mean that every CBS sports stream is unavailable. It does mean Essential is not the right plan if you want to open Paramount+ and watch your local CBS affiliate’s complete live broadcast day.
Essential also does not include downloads for offline viewing, and Paramount does not list the select 4K UHD, Dolby Vision, and HDR10 benefits with this plan.
What Paramount+ Premium includes
Premium includes everything in Essential, then adds the features most likely to matter to frequent viewers.

- Ad-free on-demand viewing: Shows and movies are generally presented without standard commercial breaks, with Paramount’s promotional-content caveat.
- Local live CBS: You can watch the local CBS station where Paramount+ supports it and can verify your location.
- More local CBS programming and sports: The local feed can include local news, CBS programming, NFL games shown by that affiliate, and other live CBS events available in your market.
- All SHOWTIME programming: Premium includes the complete SHOWTIME offering available through the service, rather than only selected SHOWTIME series.
- Downloads: Eligible movies and shows can be saved for offline viewing.
- Select enhanced video: Some titles are available in 4K UHD, Dolby Vision, or HDR10 on compatible equipment.
Local CBS is subject to location and affiliate availability. Paramount uses device location services to determine which local station is available. A Premium subscription is therefore not a guarantee that every CBS program, game, or event will be available in every market. Which Paramount+ plan is best for you?
Choose Essential if you want the lowest direct price
Essential is the sensible choice if you mainly watch on-demand content and can tolerate commercials. It covers Paramount+ originals, movies, CBS shows, kids’ programming, CBS News 24/7, CBS Sports HQ, and selected sports without paying for Premium-only features.
It is also the right starting point if you are testing the catalog or watching one series for a month or two. You can upgrade later if you discover that you need local CBS, downloads, or the complete SHOWTIME library.
Choose Premium if you want local CBS
Premium is the plan to consider if Paramount+ is replacing an antenna or part of a live-TV package. It can provide the local CBS station where available, including local news and CBS programming. It may also carry local CBS sports coverage that is not provided through Essential’s separate sports feeds.

Choose Premium for all SHOWTIME
Essential includes select SHOWTIME series, while Premium includes all SHOWTIME programming. If you are subscribing primarily for the full SHOWTIME catalog, Essential is likely to leave out the content you expected.
There is also a naming issue to watch for: television providers may still describe their channel as Paramount+ with SHOWTIME, while Paramount’s current direct-to-consumer plan is generally labeled Premium. Those products can provide similar streaming access but have different billing and activation arrangements.
Choose Essential or Premium for sports based on the specific event
Paramount’s current plan information lists NFL on CBS, UEFA Champions League, UFC, and Zuffa Boxing among the sports available through the service. Essential can therefore be enough for a viewer interested in a listed sports feed, including many UFC or Champions League viewers.

The feed, local market, blackout rules, event rights, and schedule matter. Paramount’s U.S. homepage currently promotes live UFC numbered events and Fight Nights, but you should still check the event listing before subscribing for a particular fight. Check Paramount+’s current sports and programming pages for the event you intend to watch.
Choose Premium if you need offline viewing
Downloads are a Premium-only feature. Most eligible shows and movies can be downloaded, but not every title is necessarily eligible and live TV cannot be watched without an internet connection.
Downloads are temporary licenses, not permanent purchases. Paramount says downloaded content is available for the earlier of:
- 30 days after the download, or
- 48 hours after playback begins.
Licensing restrictions and catalog changes can also affect downloaded content. Download episodes shortly before a flight or trip rather than assuming they will remain available indefinitely. See Paramount’s offline-viewing guidance for current restrictions.
Choose either plan for a family, but remember the stream limit
Both U.S. plans support up to six profiles and up to three simultaneous streams. Six profiles help separate recommendations and kids’ settings, but they do not mean six people can watch at once. If four people try to stream simultaneously, the account may hit its three-stream limit regardless of the number of profiles.
Choose monthly billing for a short viewing project
Monthly billing is usually better if you want to watch a particular series, sports season, or event and then cancel. It is also safer if you have not yet checked the catalog or are unsure how long you will use the service.
Monthly Essential costs $89.90 over 10 months, which is 9 cents less than the $89.99 annual plan. Monthly Premium costs $139.90 over 10 months, also 9 cents less than the $139.99 annual plan. The annual plan begins to cost less at the 11th monthly payment, assuming prices do not change and no promotion applies.
Choose annual billing if you expect to stay for 11 or 12 months
Annual billing makes sense when you expect to keep Paramount+ for most of the year and want the lower effective monthly rate. It can be especially attractive if you plan to use a student or educator discount for the full one-year discount period.
Annual billing is less flexible for someone who subscribes only during a short release window. Confirm the annual price, renewal price, taxes, and any promotional terms at checkout before paying the upfront amount.
Choose no subscription if your use is too narrow
If you want one movie, one short series, or a single event and do not expect to use the catalog afterward, a subscription may not be worthwhile. Check whether the title or event is available elsewhere before signing up, and if you do subscribe monthly, set a cancellation reminder immediately after payment.

How to get Paramount+ cheaper
1. Use an eligible Walmart+ membership
Eligible U.S. Walmart+ members generally receive Paramount+ Essential at no additional charge. The benefit is not automatically Premium. Some eligible members can upgrade to Premium for an additional charge through Walmart.
Walmart+ members should activate the benefit through Walmart and link it to their existing Paramount+ account if they want to preserve profiles, watchlists, and viewing history. Important transition rules include:

- The benefit is managed through Walmart, not through Paramount+ directly.
- Canceling, pausing, or allowing Walmart+ to lapse affects the included Paramount+ access.
- Upgrading the included Essential benefit to Premium creates a separate additional charge.
- Starting a new Paramount+ account instead of linking the existing account can create duplicate accounts and duplicate billing.
Review the current Walmart+ eligibility and activation instructions before changing an existing subscription.
2. Check the student discount
Verified college and university students at eligible accredited Title IV institutions can receive 50% off any Paramount+ plan. High-school students are not eligible under the cited program. Verification is handled through SheerID, and both monthly and annual plans can qualify.
The discount lasts for one year at a time. Students must reverify to continue receiving it; otherwise, the subscription renews at the regular price. Paramount may require an existing subscriber to cancel and resubscribe through the student-verification flow rather than attaching the discount to the current subscription.
At the listed prices, 50% would work out to approximately $4.50 per month or $45 per year for Essential and $7 per month or $70 per year for Premium, before taxes and subject to the exact checkout offer. Use Paramount’s student-discount page as the final authority.
3. Check the teacher, faculty, and staff discount
Paramount’s current support documentation says verified teachers, faculty, and staff can receive 50% off any plan for one year, with the option to reverify. The discount is not necessarily permanent, so check the renewal price and re-verification date. See the teacher and educator discount information for eligibility and enrollment details.
4. Look for included access through a TV provider
Some customers who subscribe to the Paramount+ with SHOWTIME channel through an eligible cable, satellite, or live-TV provider receive Premium streaming access at no additional charge. Paramount’s cited support list includes AT&T U-verse, Cox, DIRECTV, Hulu + Live TV with the appropriate add-on, Mediacom, Optimum, Spectrum, and YouTube Primetime Channels.
Provider eligibility and package requirements can change. YouTube TV is not listed as a participating provider on the cited Paramount support page, so do not assume that every live-TV service provides Paramount+ access. Use Paramount’s provider-sign-in information to verify your package.
A provider channel is not identical to a direct Paramount+ subscription. It may provide access to the television channel, the Paramount+ app, or both, depending on the provider and package. Activation, authentication, upgrades, and cancellation follow the provider’s rules.

Paramount may offer limited-time promotions, introductory rates, or targeted offers. Do not assume a discount code found on an old page still works. Before accepting an offer, record:
- The promotional price and duration.
- The regular price after the promotion.
- Whether the plan is monthly or annual.
- Whether a payment method is required.
- The date by which you must cancel to avoid renewal.
Promotional subscriptions generally convert to paid billing automatically unless canceled before the promotional period ends. Paramount’s U.S. terms of use control if the offer language and a general promotion description differ.
Free trials and promotional billing
Do not count on a standard seven-day free trial in the United States. Paramount’s subscription-plan documentation identifies seven-day trials for Australia, France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, and Ireland—not as a standard U.S. benefit. Paramount’s U.S. terms still allow it to offer limited trials or promotions at its discretion, so the signup screen is the final authority for your account.

If a U.S. signup page offers a trial or reduced-price period, read the full offer before entering payment details. Unless you cancel by the stated deadline, a full-cost promotional period can automatically convert to a paid subscription at the applicable price.

Billing, upgrades, and price changes
Paramount subscriptions renew automatically at the then-current rate plus applicable taxes. A promotional price does not necessarily become your permanent price, and an existing subscription is not permanently price-locked. Paramount says subscribers affected by a price increase should receive notice as described in its terms and price-change communications.
If you switch from monthly to annual billing directly through Paramount+, the annual charge is made immediately. Paramount’s billing documentation says unused portions of the current plan may be refunded when making that change. Third-party billing platforms can use different upgrade and credit procedures, so the platform that bills you is the one to contact about its transaction.
To avoid duplicate billing, search your email and account statements for Paramount+, Apple, Google Play, Amazon, Roku, Prime Video Channels, Apple TV Channels, Walmart, and your television provider. Two active subscriptions can exist under separate accounts even when both appear to provide access to the same service.

Direct Paramount+ subscription
- Go to ParamountPlus.com and sign in.
- Select your username in the upper-right corner.
- Select Account.
- Scroll to Cancel subscription.
- Complete the confirmation steps and save the confirmation email or screenshot.
This route applies when Paramount itself is the billing party, including certain signups made through a smart TV or game console. Follow Paramount’s current cancellation instructions if the labels on your account differ.

If Apple, Google Play, Amazon/Fire TV, Roku, Prime Video Channels, Apple TV Channels, or another platform bills you, cancel through that original billing platform. Removing the Paramount+ app does not cancel the subscription, and canceling a direct Paramount+ account will not necessarily cancel a separate platform subscription.
For platform-billed accounts, open the platform’s subscriptions or channel-management page, select Paramount+, and complete the cancellation confirmation. Keep the platform’s confirmation. Paramount’s billing-platform cancellation guide identifies the original billing source as the key step.
TV-provider or SHOWTIME channel subscription
Cancel the Paramount+ with SHOWTIME channel through the cable, satellite, or live-TV provider that bills you. Having a Paramount+ app login does not make Paramount the billing party.
Walmart+ benefit
Manage the included Paramount+ benefit through Walmart. Canceling or pausing Walmart+ can end the included access. If you separately upgraded to Premium, check Walmart’s subscription page for the upgrade charge and cancellation status.

What happens after cancellation?
Cancellation normally stops the next renewal while preserving access through the end of the current billing period. Paramount generally does not refund fees already paid, subject to its refund policy, applicable law, or an approved exception. See the Paramount refund policy for the applicable terms.
Devices and geographic limits
Paramount+ supports current devices in categories including web browsers, iPhone and iPad, Apple TV, Android phones and Android TV, Fire TV, Roku, Samsung and LG televisions, PlayStation, Xbox, Chromecast, Vizio, Xfinity, and Xumo. Exact model, operating-system, and country support can vary. Check Paramount’s supported-device list before subscribing if you plan to use an older smart TV or streaming box.
This guide covers U.S. plans and prices only. Paramount+ uses different plan names, prices, stream limits, and features in other countries. Some international guides refer to Basic, Standard, and Premium plans with different stream limits; those descriptions do not apply to the U.S. Essential and Premium plans.
A U.S.-purchased Paramount+ subscription is generally intended for use in the United States and specified U.S. territories. Paramount says Puerto Rico is not included in the U.S. service area. Travel access, content rights, and location checks can affect what you can watch, so review Paramount’s travel and geographic guidance before relying on the service outside your home area.
