Who are Jamie Fraser’s parents?
Jamie’s parents are Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser. Their romance begins at a Gathering in 18th-century Scotland, where they meet and feel an immediate connection. The official STARZ season-one page describes their first meeting as a strong connection that grows against family opposition.
Ellen MacKenzie
Ellen is a daughter of the MacKenzie family and the central figure in the Highland romance. After her father, Red Jacob, dies, her position in the family changes. TV Guide’s coverage of the premiere reports that Red Jacob had shielded her from expectations that she marry and have children for the family name; her brothers Dougal and Colum then see her as a strategic marriage prospect. Later episode descriptions on STARZ refer to Ellen’s efforts to protect herself and her family, her concerns about the family she may marry into, and wedding preparations.
Brian Fraser
Brian is Jamie’s father and Ellen’s romantic counterpart. TV Guide’s premiere coverage identifies him as Lord Lovat’s illegitimate son. The relationship is forbidden in part because the Frasers and MacKenzies are antagonistic families: the same report says Ellen’s father regarded Brian’s father as his worst enemy. Actor Jamie Roy describes Brian as having both a Highland warrior’s public bearing and a caring, romantic nature.

Who are Claire Fraser’s parents?
Claire’s parents are Julia Moriston and Henry Beauchamp. Their love story starts during World War I, when Henry is a soldier and Julia works in London’s postal censorship office. As the official STARZ episode description puts it, their romance unfolds through the letters they write to each other.

According to the Associated Press, Henry sends an open letter, Julia replies, and their correspondence develops into love. Their story is shaped by wartime separation and Julia’s difficult choices. In the prequel’s television plot, the pair are carried back to the 18th century, where they find themselves in the same era as the future Frasers and face the dangers of being outsiders.

That time-travel premise belongs to Blood of My Blood’s television story. AP also reports that the original books mention Claire’s parents less often than Jamie’s and say they died in a car accident when Claire was young. Those details from the books should not be confused with the prequel’s dramatized plot.

Is Blood of My Blood based on an Outlander book?
The series is inspired by Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander stories, but the prequel does not adapt a Blood of My Blood novel. The Associated Press reports that showrunner Matthew B. Roberts had no source novel for this specific prequel, giving the television team more room to develop the parents’ stories. Treat newly dramatized details about these romances and their intersection as television-series canon; distinguish them from what the original books or earlier Outlander seasons establish.
