Outlander: Blood of My Blood follows the parents of Jamie Fraser and Claire Beauchamp in two different eras. Jamie Roy and Harriet Slater play Brian Fraser and Ellen MacKenzie in eighteenth-century Scotland; Jeremy Irvine and Hermione Corfield play Henry Beauchamp and Julia Moriston in a World War I story. The guide below starts with the core family connections, then explains how the two romances begin.
Spoiler note: The cast and basic premise are spoiler-light. The season-one plot section later in this guide includes developments from official episode descriptions.
Who is in the main cast of Outlander: Blood of My Blood?
| Character | Actor | Connection to Outlander |
|---|---|---|
| Brian Fraser | Jamie Roy | Jamie Fraser’s father |
| Ellen MacKenzie | Harriet Slater | Jamie Fraser’s mother |
| Henry Beauchamp | Jeremy Irvine | Claire Beauchamp’s father |
| Julia Moriston | Hermione Corfield | Claire Beauchamp’s mother |
The official STARZ series listing names the four lead performers, while the Associated Press identifies their characters and family relationships in its cast interview.
How are the characters related to Jamie and Claire?
The prequel is about the parents of the original series’ central couple: Brian and Ellen are Jamie’s parents, while Henry and Julia are Claire’s. Claire is identified as Claire Beauchamp in the prequel’s premise; the family connection is to the Claire whose story continues in Outlander.
#1 Best Overall
The show expands the television franchise’s backstory rather than adapting a dedicated Blood of My Blood novel. The Associated Press reports that the characters draw inspiration from Diana Gabaldon’s stories, but showrunner Matthew B. Roberts did not have novels to follow for this particular story.
How do the two romances differ?
| Storyline | Setting | How the couple begins | Central obstacle |
|---|---|---|---|
| Henry Beauchamp and Julia Moriston | World War I; Henry is a soldier, while Julia works in a London postal censorship office. | Julia finds Henry’s letter and replies; their connection develops through correspondence. | The wartime circumstances lead them into events that take them back to the 1700s, where they must survive as outsiders. |
| Brian Fraser and Ellen MacKenzie | Eighteenth-century Scotland | They meet at the Gathering. | Their families are opposed to one another, placing pressure on the relationship. |
The broad premise and the contrast between the periods are described by Sony Pictures Television and the Associated Press. Harriet Slater has described the family divide as forbidden: “They don’t mix. It’s completely forbidden.” Jamie Roy, meanwhile, has spoken of Brian’s contrast between a “tough, stoic, Highland warrior” and a “lovely, gentle, poetic, romantic guy who wants nothing more than to take care of other people.” Those are the actors’ descriptions of their characters, not a complete account of everything the season reveals.

Season-one plot details
Spoilers: The following is based on STARZ’s season-one episode descriptions and goes beyond the basic premise.
STARZ lists 10 episodes in season one. Its synopses establish that Brian and Ellen meet at the Gathering; Henry serves in World War I as Julia works in London’s censorship office; Ellen faces family and marriage pressures; and Henry searches for Julia. Listed episode titles include “Providence,” “S.W.A.K. (Sealed With A Kiss),” “School of the Moon,” “A Soldier’s Heart,” “Needfire,” “Birthright,” “Luceo Non Uro,” “A Virtuous Woman,” and “Braemar.” The synopses provide plot context without making the two romances one continuous story: each begins in its own historical setting.

What is known about the wider cast and production?
Screen Scotland’s November 2025 production brochure lists Tony Curran, Conor MacNeill, Seamus McLean Ross, Peter Mullan, Sara Vickers, and Brian McCardie among the wider cast, alongside the four leads. The brochure does not connect those performers to specific character names, so those role assignments cannot be established from that listing alone.
The same brochure identifies the project as a 2025 UK drama and lists Jamie Payne, Azhur Saleem, Emer Conroy, and Matthew Moore as directors. Its writing credits include Diana Gabaldon, Maggie Ye, Taylor Mallory, Matthew B. Roberts, Macy Grace Smolsky, and Kiersten Van Horne. It names STARZ as streamer and lists Sony Pictures Television, Story Mining & Supply Co., Tall Ship Productions, Left Bank Pictures, and No Fooling Productions among the production companies.
Where can you watch Outlander: Blood of My Blood?
Sony Pictures’ page says “Watch Now Only on Starz,” and STARZ provides the official episode listings. Viewing availability and subscription terms can vary by location and change over time, so check the current STARZ listing for your region.
