Before that dare becomes an adventure, Momo helps Okarun after classmates bully him. This is their first decisive bond. Her action is social rather than romantic, but it gives them a reason to speak and establishes a pattern in which Momo acts when Okarun is vulnerable.
The occult dare turns them into partners
- Momo investigates a UFO location. She goes to test Okarun’s belief in aliens.
- Okarun enters a haunted tunnel. He goes to challenge Momo’s belief in ghosts.

Are Momo and Okarun romantically interested in each other?
Yes. The story presents their attraction as a slow burn rather than an immediate confession or relationship label. They show concern for each other, become embarrassed when intimacy is suggested, and react with jealousy or insecurity when a rival appears. Supernatural emergencies, jokes and misunderstandings repeatedly interrupt direct conversations about their feelings.

An official fifth-anniversary feature describes Momo as “a strong and reliable girl in love.” That wording is the clearest official shorthand for her feelings. Her protectiveness is practical during fights, but her behavior around Okarun also becomes more self-conscious and emotionally exposed.

The same official profile says Okarun grows through meeting Momo. His feelings are often expressed indirectly: he worries about her safety, becomes flustered by romantic situations, and reacts strongly when her attention might shift elsewhere. His confidence develops alongside their bond.
Why their conversations feel unusually awkward
Momo and Okarun are comfortable relying on each other in a crisis, yet less comfortable naming what that reliance means. In a 2025 official interview, Momo’s Japanese voice actor Shion Wakayama explained that she gives Momo a slightly higher, more “maiden-like” way of speaking when Momo is alone with Okarun. The performance deliberately shifts those scenes from battle comedy toward romantic comedy.

Where Jiji fits into the relationship
Jiji is not merely an obstacle invented by fans. The official anniversary material identifies him as Okarun’s best friend and romantic rival. His presence creates a genuine triangle-shaped source of insecurity: Momo and Okarun’s attraction remains mutual, but the possibility of competition makes Okarun’s feelings harder for him to ignore.
Where the anime leaves Momo and Okarun
Spoilers for the end of anime season 2: a girl emerges from a shrunken space kaiju and kisses Okarun. Momo sees the kiss. The season-3 announcement presents this as a cliffhanger, not as proof that Okarun has chosen someone else or that his bond with Momo is over.

The scene places their existing communication problem under pressure. Momo has witnessed an apparently intimate moment, while the audience is left waiting for the circumstances and Okarun’s response to be clarified. The anime therefore ends with their romance unresolved on-screen.

Dandadan remains an ongoing manga by Yukinobu Tatsu. Official JUMP+ listings identify collected volumes through volume 25, with volume 26 scheduled for November 2026. An official episode listing titled “Okarun’s Resolve” shows that his personal and relationship storyline continues beyond the anime’s current adaptation point.

Because serialization is still continuing, it is not accurate to declare a final couple status from the available official material. Readers comparing versions should keep the anime’s season-2 ending separate from later manga chapters and label any future developments by their publication date.
