Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFor a 720p, 30 fps YouTube Live stream encoded as H.264 in OBS, start at 8 Mbps video bitrate. YouTube’s published table lists 3 Mbps as the minimum for that combination. Use constant bitrate (CBR) and a 2-second keyframe interval; YouTube says keyframes should not exceed 4 seconds. These are live-stream ingest settings, not YouTube’s separate recommendations for uploaded videos.
Recommended OBS settings for 720p30
YouTube’s live encoder guidance sets recommendations by codec, resolution and frame rate. For a playlist channel targeting 1280×720 at 30 fps, use the values below as your OBS starting point. YouTube’s official encoder settings page was accessed October 3, 2026; its figures can change.
| Setting | 720p30 guidance |
|---|---|
| Resolution and frame rate | 1280Ă—720 at 30 fps, if this is the intended output |
| Video bitrate, H.264 | 8 Mbps recommended; 3 Mbps minimum |
| Video bitrate, AV1 or H.265/HEVC | 6 Mbps recommended; 2 Mbps minimum |
| Rate control | CBR (constant bitrate) |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds recommended; no more than 4 seconds |
| Audio | AAC or MP3; 128 Kbps stereo is the listed recommended advanced setting |
| Ingest protocol | RTMP or RTMPS; YouTube recommends RTMPS |
For OBS, set the video bitrate in the streaming encoder settings and choose CBR rate control; set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds. The exact menu labels can vary by OBS version. Confirm that the output resolution and frame rate are 1280×720 and 30 fps, and configure audio separately. Use the stream key and server information from the YouTube Live control room. YouTube’s live encoder settings describe the supported settings and protocols.
How much upload speed does a 24/7 stream need?
The 8 Mbps recommendation is for video alone, not the entire connection. With 128 Kbps stereo audio, the encoded stream is nominally about 8.128 Mbps before transport overhead. YouTube recommends leaving 20% of available upload capacity beyond the total stream bitrate. Applying that margin gives roughly 9.75 Mbps of sustained upload capacity as a planning estimate, not a separate YouTube threshold. Allow more if the connection fluctuates, other devices share it, or you send a backup stream.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
YouTube’s guidance is to ensure the total stream bitrate does not exceed available upload bandwidth and to leave room: YouTube recommends 20% headroom. A single speed test does not establish that a connection can hold its upload rate continuously; stability matters for a long-running stream.
Data use at 8 Mbps
At a constant 8 Mbps, video payload alone works out to about 86.4 decimal GB in 24 hours (8 megabits per second Ă— 86,400 seconds Ă· 8 bits per byte). Audio and transport overhead add to that. This is arithmetic based on the selected bitrate, not a YouTube-published usage figure.

Does a 24/7 playlist need a different bitrate?
No special 24/7 multiplier appears in the reviewed YouTube encoder guidance. Its settings are tied to codec, resolution and frame rate, not stream duration. A playlist does not call for a lower bitrate just because its visuals are static; the reviewed official sources provide no comparative test supporting that adjustment. Keep the bitrate appropriate to the output you want, and prioritize reliable upload capacity, accurate audio and a recovery plan.
YouTube transcodes live streams into multiple output formats for viewers on different devices and networks, but that does not compensate for an unstable feed sent from OBS. A connection disruption can break the stream. A wired connection may help a computer avoid some local wireless variability if available, but YouTube does not require Ethernet.

Test and monitor the playlist before leaving it live
- Set up the stream in YouTube Live Control Room. Use the stream key and server information provided for the broadcast. Review YouTube’s live stream settings guidance for stream configuration.
- Configure OBS for the target output. Set 1280Ă—720 at 30 fps, H.264 at 8 Mbps, CBR, and a 2-second keyframe interval; configure audio at the intended format and bitrate.
- Run a representative test. Test the actual playlist, including its loudest or most complex audio and video segments. YouTube advises testing with representative sound and movement before going live.
- Check stream health and messages. Watch YouTube’s stream-health indicators during the test and after starting the broadcast. Monitoring can surface problems; it cannot guarantee uninterrupted operation.
- Plan what happens after a failure. Decide how someone will notice a stopped stream and restart or recover it. YouTube’s recommendations do not promise that OBS, the computer, the playlist or the network will stay connected indefinitely.
YouTube’s exact advice is to test before going live with sound and movement similar to the real stream, then monitor stream health and review messages during the event. See Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
Common bitrate and connection problems
- YouTube reports dropped frames or an unstable stream: Check whether sustained upload capacity is sufficient for video, audio and overhead, with the recommended 20% headroom. Reduce competing network use or lower the stream bitrate if the connection cannot sustain the target.
- The stream disconnects despite a good speed test: A momentary test does not establish continuous stability. Check for network interruptions, shared bandwidth and equipment or computer sleep settings; keep a recovery plan in place.
- OBS output differs from the intended 720p30: Verify output resolution and frame rate in OBS rather than assuming the source playlist determines the stream output.
- Keyframes or rate control are not configured as expected: Confirm CBR and a 2-second keyframe interval in the active streaming encoder settings. YouTube’s limit is no more than 4 seconds.
- Audio is missing or inconsistent: Check the OBS audio source and track selection, and verify that audio is encoded as AAC or MP3. Test the playlist itself before relying on it for continuous playback.
Or let it run in the cloud
