Short answer: OBS is the more approachable choice if you need a visual workspace to arrange scenes, sources and audio; FFmpeg is a better fit if you can build and supervise a scripted media pipeline. Neither is proven to be more reliable for 24/7 streaming: YouTube’s requirements focus on the outgoing stream, and the available evidence does not include a controlled, India-specific reliability comparison. For either tool, plan around your measured connection, process recovery and local recordings—not the assumption that the encoder will run forever without attention.
OBS or FFmpeg: which fits your workflow?
Both OBS Studio and FFmpeg can be configured to send a live stream to YouTube. YouTube’s encoder setup uses a server URL and stream key; it does not prescribe one of these encoders. YouTube also transcodes the incoming video for different viewer formats. The decision is mainly about how you want to produce and operate the stream, not a demonstrated difference in uptime.
| Consideration | OBS Studio | FFmpeg |
|---|---|---|
| Production workflow | A graphical workspace for scenes, sources, audio and visual changes. | A command-line media pipeline configured through commands or scripts. |
| Automation | Works well when an operator wants to manage a production visually; the amount of automation depends on the chosen workflow. | Suited to scripted playback and repeatable media tasks when the operator can build and maintain the pipeline. |
| Failure diagnosis and recovery | Requires monitoring OBS and its stream state; recovery still needs an operational plan. | Requires comfort with process supervision, logs and restart or recovery logic. |
| Resource use | Depends on the actual scene, sources, encoding choices and hardware; no comparative benchmark is established. | Depends on the actual command, media and hardware; no comparative benchmark is established. |
| 24/7 reliability | No evidence establishes that OBS is more reliable for continuous operation. | No evidence establishes that FFmpeg is more reliable for continuous operation. |
For a channel where someone is actively arranging visuals, OBS’s interface may be the more natural fit. For a fixed playback sequence that you can express and supervise as a script, FFmpeg may suit your workflow better. These are workflow judgments, not results from a matched 24/7 test. Your hardware, configuration and operating discipline matter, and YouTube does not prescribe a dedicated PC, server or hosting location in the cited setup guidance.
Set up the YouTube stream and encoder
- Check eligibility. YouTube’s current live-start guidance says a channel must be verified, have no livestream restrictions in the past 90 days, and meet the minimum livestream age of 16. First-time live activation may take up to 24 hours. See YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance.
- Create or select a stream in Live Control Room. Use the server URL and stream key YouTube provides. Enter them in the encoder’s streaming configuration. Keep the stream key private; anyone who obtains it may be able to send a stream to your channel.
- Choose an ingest protocol and encoding settings. YouTube recommends RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval; do not exceed four seconds. Its settings page lists H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1 video options, frame rates up to 60 fps, and AAC or MP3 audio. Available settings can vary with protocol and encoder, so confirm the options shown by your current Studio configuration. See YouTube’s encoder settings.
- Choose resolution, frame rate and bitrate for your actual setup. There is no single India-wide bitrate that fits every ISP, city, connection or shared network. Start with a configuration your hardware and sustained upload can support, then test it with representative motion and audio.
- Check the preview before going live. Confirm picture and sound in Live Control Room, then monitor stream health while the encoder is running. A successful connection alone does not prove the broadcast is free of dropped frames, audio problems or other quality issues.
Plan bandwidth and continuity for an Indian connection
YouTube advises that total streaming bitrate stay within the available upload bandwidth and recommends 20% headroom. If you send both primary and backup streams, count their combined bitrate when checking capacity. A speed test is a starting point, not a guarantee of sustained performance: shared network use and changes in the connection can affect the upload available during a long broadcast. See YouTube’s network and encoder guidance.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Measure upload performance under conditions that resemble the planned broadcast, including other devices and services using the connection.
- Keep the stream’s total bitrate within reliable upload capacity, with YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom.
- Test any backup encoder and its failover procedure before relying on it. A backup is useful only if it can take over as intended and the connection has capacity for the streams involved.
- Monitor the video, audio and stream-health indicators rather than assuming a long-running process is healthy.
- If power interruptions are a concern, a UPS for the computer and network equipment is an optional way to protect against brief outages. Size it for the actual load and desired runtime; YouTube does not require one.
There is no basis here for a universal claim about Indian upload speeds, outage rates or a suitable cloud region. Your location, ISP, sustained upload results, shared-network load and power conditions determine what is practical.
Do not rely on one 24-hour YouTube archive
A 24/7 broadcast can outlast YouTube’s dependable archive window. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived; a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. DVR rewind may also be limited or unavailable on very long broadcasts. This is an archive and playback limitation, not evidence that YouTube prohibits a longer live stream. See YouTube’s live-stream archiving guidance and DVR controls for live streams.

If a public replay or rewind matters, plan scheduled shorter broadcasts rather than assuming one continuous day-long session will be saved as a complete video. Keep a separate local recording as a backup, rotate recordings so storage does not fill, and check that the file is growing and plays correctly. YouTube also recommends checking local recording integrity and testing encoder failover.
Copyright, eligibility and channel policies
Neither OBS nor FFmpeg gives you permission to rebroadcast content. YouTube’s live-stream terms require compliance with its Community Guidelines and applicable laws, and require the provider to have necessary rights, including relevant music rights. For third-party video, music, television, radio or public footage, assess the rights to each item independently. These platform requirements are not a complete analysis of Indian law.
