For a mostly static Marathi devotional playlist stream, start with OBS set to H.264, CBR, a 2-second keyframe interval, and 30 fps. Use 3 Mbps video bitrate for 720p30 or 5 Mbps for 1080p30, plus stereo AAC at 128 kbps and 44.1 kHz. These are YouTube-aligned starting points, not a tested preset: choose the resolution and bitrate your computer and upload connection can sustain.
Recommended OBS settings for a devotional playlist
YouTube’s encoder guidance supports H.264, H.265, and AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS. H.264 is a conservative compatibility choice. YouTube recommends RTMPS where available and CBR for live encoding. Its published targets are based on resolution and frame rate; the 30 fps choice here suits a still image or slow visual, rather than being a YouTube requirement. See YouTube’s live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
| OBS setting | Starting point | Why it fits |
|---|---|---|
| Service / protocol | YouTube; RTMPS where available | YouTube recommends RTMPS for secure ingestion. |
| Video encoder | H.264 | A conservative compatibility option among YouTube’s supported RTMP/RTMPS codecs. |
| Rate control | CBR | YouTube lists CBR for live encoder bitrate encoding. |
| Resolution and frame rate | 1280 × 720 at 30 fps, or 1920 × 1080 at 30 fps | 30 fps is generally sufficient for low-motion artwork; select a resolution your system and connection can maintain. |
| Video bitrate, H.264 | 720p30: 3 Mbps recommended; 2 Mbps minimum. 1080p30: 5 Mbps recommended; 4 Mbps minimum. | These are YouTube’s published encoder rates, not guarantees of connection stability. |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds | YouTube recommends 2 seconds and says not to exceed 4 seconds. |
| Audio | Stereo AAC or MP3; 128 kbps; 44.1 kHz | YouTube recommends 128 kbps and 44.1 kHz for stereo. |
| Color | Rec. 709 for SDR | YouTube’s recommended advanced setting for SDR. |
Choose 720p30 or 1080p30
Use 720p30 if the upload connection is constrained or the visual is mostly a still image. Choose 1080p30 if the artwork or animation benefits from extra detail and your connection and encoder can hold the higher bitrate reliably. YouTube recommends basing quality on connection reliability and running an upload speed test. Leave bandwidth headroom for audio and connection variation rather than using the entire measured upload rate; YouTube’s table does not specify a universal overhead margin.
Set up YouTube Live and OBS
- Check channel eligibility. Enable live streaming and confirm the channel is verified and has had no live-stream restrictions in the preceding 90 days. YouTube states that streamers must be at least 16. Review its live streaming eligibility guidance.
- Create the event. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule an encoder stream. Copy the stream URL and stream key into OBS’s YouTube service settings. Treat the key like a password: anyone with it may be able to broadcast to your channel. YouTube explains stream-key management here.
- Configure OBS. In Settings, set the stream service and server/key; under Output, select CBR and the chosen video bitrate; under Video, set the output resolution and 30 fps; set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds and the audio bitrate to 128 kbps. Set stereo sample rate to 44.1 kHz and SDR color to Rec. 709 where those controls are available in your OBS version.
- Build a simple scene. Add a still image or gentle visual loop for which you have streaming rights, then add the playlist audio source. Confirm the intended desktop or media audio is active; mute unintended microphone input and notifications. These are operational checks, not YouTube eligibility rules.
- Test privately or unlisted. Use representative audio and visuals, inspect the Live Control Room preview before going public, and listen for clipping, silence, or unintended sound. YouTube recommends testing with audio and movement similar to the real stream and continuously monitoring quality in its encoder guidance and live-streaming tips.
- Monitor the broadcast. Watch YouTube’s stream health and OBS’s dropped-frame indicator. OBS says increasing dropped frames alongside a yellow or red connection indicator means the connection is unstable or cannot keep up with the configured bitrate. Lower the bitrate or output resolution, then retest. See the OBS dropped-frame troubleshooting guidance.
- End the event cleanly. Stop the event from YouTube Live Control Room, then stop the encoder, following YouTube’s operational tips.
Clear music and visual rights before going live
Devotional subject matter does not make a song or recording free to stream. A traditional composition and a particular recording of it can have different rights; online availability, a “free” label, or credit in a description does not by itself grant permission. Confirm permission for the exact recordings and visuals, including the intended live use and any replay or archive. YouTube’s livestream terms say the content provider warrants that it has the necessary rights for live content on Google services worldwide, including music licensing rights.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If detected content remains, the stream may be interrupted or terminated. If a rights holder has licensed you to use its content, ask whether it must add your channel to its Content ID allowlist; YouTube notes that a valid license may not prevent interruption if the channel is not allowlisted. Read YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.
YouTube describes copyright-safe music as public-domain music or music used with the copyright owner’s permission. Its suggested sources include the YouTube Audio Library, original music, and properly licensed third-party music. Check the specific license for live streaming, territories, duration, monetization, and replay rights rather than assuming every license covers every use. See YouTube’s tips to find safe music.

Troubleshoot common stream problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| OBS reports dropped frames; stream health is poor | Upload connection is unstable or cannot sustain the selected bitrate. | Reduce bitrate or output resolution, use a more reliable connection if available, and run another representative test before the public stream. |
| YouTube preview is black or no stream arrives | Wrong stream key/server details, encoder not started, or an OBS scene/source is missing. | Check the event’s current stream details in Live Control Room, re-enter them carefully in OBS, start streaming, and verify that the intended scene is active. |
| Viewers hear silence, the wrong sound, or notifications | Incorrect audio capture/routing, muted source, or an unintended desktop or microphone source. | Check OBS audio meters and source mute states; play a representative track and listen in the YouTube preview before launch. |
| Audio sounds distorted or clips | Input level is too high or multiple sources are being captured. | Lower the source level, remove duplicate capture paths, and verify with a test recording or private stream. |
| Live stream is interrupted for a music claim | Third-party content was detected, or the channel is not on the rights holder’s allowlist. | Stop and resolve the rights issue with the owner; confirm any required Content ID allowlisting before restarting. Do not assume attribution or a license alone prevents automated interruption. |
