Start with a simple 720p30 OBS output, use YouTube’s recommended bitrate for the codec you select, and test it on the actual mini PC and internet connection before relying on it. For H.264, YouTube recommends 8 Mbps at 720p30 or 14 Mbps at 1080p30, with CBR and a 2-second keyframe interval. A mini PC may sustain those settings—or it may not: encoder support, scene complexity, cooling, system stability, and upload quality all matter.

Start with a conservative OBS configuration

For a low-power mini PC, begin with 1280×720 at 30 fps if that picture quality suits the material. Use a supported hardware encoder if available, keep the scene simple, and set the bitrate to match the chosen codec and output. YouTube’s official encoder settings and bitrate table distinguishes minimum from recommended bitrates; do not treat the minimum as the target for a dependable stream.

  • Rate control: CBR.
  • Keyframe interval: 2 seconds; YouTube says not to exceed 4 seconds.
  • Scan and pixels: progressive scan and square pixels.
  • B-frames: 2.
  • Audio: AAC or MP3 for RTMP/RTMPS; YouTube lists stereo AAC at 128 kbps and 44.1 kHz in its advanced recommendations.
  • Protocol: RTMPS is YouTube’s recommended ingest protocol.

These are encoder targets, not a guarantee that an unspecified mini PC can hold a 24/7 stream. YouTube’s settings also list H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1 for standard SDR streaming; use a codec that both the machine and your OBS workflow support.

Choose output resolution, frame rate, and bitrate

Pick the row matching the actual output codec, resolution, and frame rate. The following values are YouTube’s published minimum and recommended video bitrates; audio uses additional bandwidth.

  • 【AMD Ryzen 7330U】 – The Efficiency-Tuned Powerhouse,AMD Ryzen 7330U (Zen 3, SMT, 4C/8T) in KAMRUI P2 mini PC crushes rivals: Intel i3-10110U (2C/4T, 2019) and N95 (4 efficiency cores, no HT, single-channel memory). Vs predecessor Ryzen 3 4300U (4C/4T): ~50% faster single-core, ~46% multi-core, 8MB L3 cache (vs 4MB). For documentaries, a mostly static image, narration, or slow footage may not benefit enough from 60 fps or 1080p to justify the added encoding and network demand. Fast movement can benefit from a higher frame rate, while fine visual detail may benefit from 1080p. Choose based on the footage and what the mini PC can sustain, then test rather than assuming the higher setting is better.

Set up OBS and connect it to YouTube

  1. Check the device first. Confirm the operating system, available encoder options, cooling, and network connection. OBS capability varies with encoder, resolution, frame rate, and scene complexity. If unsure where to begin, OBS suggests Tools → Auto Configuration Wizard.
  2. Build a lightweight scene. Add only the video source, audio, and other elements the stream needs. Avoid unnecessary filters, animated overlays, and extra scenes. OBS explains that scene compositing consumes GPU resources; its performance guidance recommends reducing unnecessary GPU work and output demands if OBS cannot keep up.
  3. Select the encoder. In OBS, open Settings → Output and choose the supported hardware encoder if one is available. Hardware encoding can move work off the CPU, but availability and quality vary by device and encoder generation. If it is unavailable or produces poor results, test software encoding at an output the CPU can sustain. OBS discusses the trade-offs in its hardware encoding guide.
  4. Set the output. In Settings → Video, choose the intended output resolution and frame rate. In Settings → Output, set CBR, the matching bitrate from the table above, and a 2-second keyframe interval. Where the encoder exposes the relevant options, use progressive scan, square pixels, and 2 B-frames.
  5. Set audio. Use a compatible AAC or MP3 audio stream. YouTube’s advanced guidance lists 128 kbps stereo AAC at 44.1 kHz. Make sure the source audio is actually present and at a usable level.
  6. Configure the YouTube connection. In YouTube Studio, create or select the live stream and copy its stream key. In OBS, open Settings → Stream, choose YouTube or the appropriate YouTube ingest option, and connect the account or enter the stream key as prompted. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it, and reset it in YouTube if it is exposed.
  7. Start with an unlisted test. Begin streaming privately or unlisted, confirm that YouTube receives the feed, and check the stream health messages before making it public.

Protect the stream from network and system limits

Leave upload headroom

Measure sustained upload capacity on the same connection the mini PC will use. YouTube recommends 20% room above the total stream bitrate, and the total includes audio as well as video. For example, an 8 Mbps video setting plus audio requires more than 8 Mbps of available upload capacity. Speed-test results can vary; a single peak reading does not establish that the connection will remain stable.

Use Ethernet where practical. OBS recommends a wired connection for streaming. Its dropped-frames guidance notes that frame drops may reflect an unstable path or a bitrate beyond the connection’s capacity. If you must use Wi-Fi, test from the mini PC’s actual location and during the times it will run.

Keep encoding and cooling sustainable

Watch OBS’s performance indicators while the stream runs. If encoding or rendering lag appears, reduce output resolution or frame rate, simplify the scene, or try a different supported encoder. If the mini PC becomes hot, throttles, reboots, or loses the network, a brief successful start is not enough evidence for continuous operation. The consulted OBS and YouTube guidance does not certify any mini PC for 24/7 use or promise uninterrupted uptime.

Test a realistic stream before relying on it

YouTube advises testing with movement and audio similar to the intended broadcast and monitoring stream health and messages. Use the actual video material, overlays, audio, bitrate, and network path. Leave the test running long enough to exercise the expected workload, but understand that neither YouTube nor OBS supplies a test duration that guarantees 24/7 stability.

  • Confirm the video is not frozen, black, or unexpectedly cropped.
  • Listen for missing, distorted, or out-of-sync audio.
  • Check OBS for rendering or encoding lag and YouTube for stream health warnings.
  • Observe upload stability and dropped frames, not just whether the stream initially connects.
  • Verify what viewers see after the stream ends and whether the intended live setup behaves as expected.

Troubleshoot common failures

Symptom Likely area to check What to try
Dropped frames or intermittent disconnection Unstable or insufficient upload path Use Ethernet, retest upload capacity, leave the recommended headroom, and reduce bitrate if the connection cannot sustain it.
Encoding or rendering lag Encoder load, resolution, frame rate, or scene complexity Try a supported hardware encoder, lower output demands, and remove unnecessary GPU-heavy scene elements.
YouTube receives no stream Ingest selection or stream key Check the YouTube connection in OBS and confirm the current stream key is entered correctly. Replace an exposed key in YouTube Studio.
Video arrives but audio is missing or wrong OBS audio source, track, format, or levels Check the selected audio source and stream track, confirm it is active in OBS, and verify compatible AAC or MP3 output.
Stream works briefly but fails later Heat, system instability, network variation, or sustained resource pressure Monitor the mini PC and connection over a longer representative test; review OBS and YouTube warnings and lower demands if limits appear.

Keep prerecorded content rights-safe

A 24/7 loop does not change the rights obligations for the footage, music, or other material in the stream. Use content you own or are licensed to broadcast, and check permissions for both the video and soundtrack. YouTube may enforce copyright rules against live content; review its copyright guidance for live streams. Permission to upload a recording does not necessarily mean you have permission to rebroadcast it continuously.
