OBS Settings for a 24/7 YouTube Sanskrit Shloka Playlist Stream

Loop one recording with OBS Media Source or a multi-file playlist with VLC Video. Set encoding for your connection, test with YouTube, and plan for failures OBS looping cannot fix.

For a single recording, add an OBS Media Source and enable Loop. For multiple recordings, use VLC Video as a playlist source, with VLC installed in the same architecture as OBS. Set encoding for the actual video and a stable upload connection, then test in YouTube’s Live Control Room before going public. These settings repeat media; they do not keep a crashed computer, OBS, or internet connection running.

Choose the right OBS source

One recording: Media Source

In OBS, add a Media Source to a scene and select the local video file. Enable Loop to repeat it. The source’s Restart playback when source becomes active option is enabled by default, while Loop is off by default. OBS documents supported media formats and these controls in its Media Sources guide.

Several recordings: VLC Video

Add a VLC Video source and build its playlist from the files you want to play. Loop Playlist is on by default and Shuffle Playlist is off by default, so check both against your intended order. VLC must be installed; OBS’s guide says 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. Test every file locally first, because unsupported formats or missing playback support can interrupt the sequence.

Prepare the shloka playlist and scene

  1. Check the source files. Play the complete playlist on the streaming computer. Confirm the order, transitions, audio levels, and that every file plays to its end. Check for silence, clipping, unexpected black frames, or gaps between recordings.
  2. Create a simple scene. Add the Media Source or VLC Video source. Add a still image or other visual only if you have the rights to use it and have verified that it displays as intended. Make sure the source is visible in the OBS preview.
  3. Check audio routing. Listen to the OBS audio meters while playback runs, then monitor the actual stream in YouTube’s preview. Ensure the intended audio is reaching the stream and that desktop or microphone audio is not being captured unintentionally.
  4. Test before broadcasting. Use an unlisted or otherwise suitable test stream. Watch the preview, listen for audio problems, and review YouTube’s stream health before making the broadcast public.

Set OBS output for YouTube Live

There is no single best bitrate for every Sanskrit playlist stream. Choose a resolution and frame rate suited to the visual material, the computer, and the upload connection you can sustain—not just a speed-test peak. A mostly static devotional visual generally does not need 60 fps simply because YouTube accepts it.

Example output YouTube H.264 bitrate guidance How to use it
1080p at 30 fps 5 Mbps minimum; 14 Mbps recommended Values listed in YouTube’s encoder settings table; they are not a guarantee of stable streaming or a universal target.
720p at 30 fps 3 Mbps minimum; 8 Mbps recommended Values listed in YouTube’s encoder settings table; they are not a guarantee of stable streaming or a universal target.

The figures above are from YouTube’s encoder settings guidance; the surfaced page does not state a publication year. The table is codec-specific, so do not apply these H.264 values to another codec as if they were equivalent. Use YouTube’s current table for your selected codec and resolution.

  • Rate control: YouTube recommends CBR.
  • Keyframes: Set a 2-second keyframe interval; YouTube says not to exceed 4 seconds.
  • Protocol: YouTube supports RTMP/RTMPS streaming and recommends RTMPS to encrypt the connection in transit to Google’s servers.
  • Codec: YouTube’s guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 encoder options. Confirm the current YouTube table and that your encoder supports the selected option.

In OBS, select YouTube as the streaming service and use the server and stream key shown for the chosen stream in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Exact OBS controls can vary by version and selected encoder; use the relevant output controls to apply the codec, CBR, bitrate, and keyframe interval above. Confirm the stream preview and health after connecting rather than assuming that saved settings guarantee a healthy broadcast.

Connect OBS to YouTube and protect the stream key

  1. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or select the stream you intend to use.
  2. In OBS, configure the YouTube service or server and enter the stream URL and key from YouTube. YouTube Help describes stream keys as “your YouTube stream’s password and address” in its Manage live stream settings guidance.
  3. Keep the key private. Do not include it in screenshots, public instructions, or logs you share. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update OBS with the replacement.
  4. Check whether auto-start and auto-stop are enabled for that particular stream. Their behavior depends on the stream’s settings; do not assume OBS starting or stopping will have the outcome you expect.
  5. Start a test, verify the Live Control Room preview and stream health, and only then proceed with the intended broadcast.

Can OBS keep a stream live for 24 hours?

OBS can loop a file or playlist, but looping only controls playback. It does not restart OBS after a crash, restore a failed internet connection, or protect against a computer or power failure. A local 24/7 stream depends on the computer, OBS, the media files, power, and network remaining available. Plan to monitor it and have a way to restart the encoder or reconnect after a failure.

YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. A planned 24/7 stream exceeds that stated threshold, so do not assume YouTube will create a complete automatic archive of the whole broadcast. If retaining a durable copy matters, plan and test local recording or another separate archive. Monitor local storage if recording continuously.

Copyright and reuse checks for devotional media

A Sanskrit shloka may be ancient, but a particular recording, translation, arrangement, artwork, or background track can have its own rights holder. Verify the license or permission for every asset in the playlist and for the way you plan to broadcast it. The OBS and YouTube setup guidance does not establish the rights status of any particular recording. Avoid assuming that devotional, educational, or public-domain subject matter makes a modern performance or image free to reuse.

Troubleshoot common failures

  • The same clip does not repeat: Check that Loop is enabled on the Media Source. For multiple files, confirm Loop Playlist is enabled on the VLC Video source.
  • A playlist item is skipped or will not play: Test that file locally and confirm VLC is installed and compatible with OBS’s architecture. Check the file’s format and playback support.
  • OBS connects but YouTube shows no usable picture or audio: Inspect the OBS preview, source visibility, audio meters, and the Live Control Room preview. Check that the intended scene and audio are being sent.
  • The stream health reports problems: Check whether the chosen bitrate is sustainable on the actual upload connection, then reduce output demands if needed and test again. A brief speed test does not establish stable upload capacity over a full day.
  • YouTube does not start or stop when OBS does: Review the selected stream’s auto-start and auto-stop settings in Live Control Room.
  • The broadcast stops after a computer or network failure: Media looping cannot recover a stopped encoder or connection. Restart OBS or restore the network, then verify the stream preview and health again.
  • The archive is incomplete or missing: A 24-hour broadcast is longer than YouTube’s stated under-12-hour automatic archive threshold. Use a tested local recording or separate archiving plan if a complete copy is important.
