OBS Settings for a 24/7 YouTube Kids Learning Playlist in India

A stable 24/7 YouTube learning playlist starts with OBS settings matched to your upload connection. Learn the bitrate choices, kids audience effects and why a separate archive plan matters.

For a 24/7 YouTube playlist of children’s learning videos, start with OBS’s Auto-Configuration Wizard, then test a conservative resolution, frame rate and bitrate against your actual upload connection. For example, YouTube’s recommended H.264 bitrate is 8 Mbps for 720p at either 30 or 60 fps, and 14 Mbps for 1080p30. Those are encoder recommendations—not a guarantee that your connection can sustain them continuously. Set the audience accurately: a playlist deliberately aimed at children is likely “made for kids.” Finally, do not rely on YouTube to preserve a single 24-hour broadcast as a replay; streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured.

Recommended starting settings

There is no universal OBS preset that guarantees a stable 24/7 broadcast. Your computer, encoder, source video and measured upload connection all matter. Use the following as a starting point, then test with the actual playlist and audio before scheduling a long run.

Setting Starting point When to change it
Resolution 1280 Ă— 720 (720p) Use 1920 Ă— 1080 (1080p) if the source benefits from the extra detail and your encoder and upload connection sustain the higher bitrate without instability.
Frame rate 30 fps Try 60 fps if the source is 60 fps or has motion that benefits from it, and your system can encode it reliably. For mostly static educational visuals, 30 fps is a reasonable starting point.
Encoder H.264, where available H.265 or AV1 are also supported by YouTube, but availability depends on your OBS build and hardware. Check the matching bitrate recommendation and confirm the stream works with your encoder.
Rate control CBR YouTube recommends constant bitrate for live encoding.
Keyframe interval 2 seconds YouTube recommends two seconds and says not to exceed four seconds.

These are starting choices, not a special YouTube preset for children’s content or an India-specific setting. YouTube’s recommended ingest bitrates vary by resolution, frame rate and codec:

Output H.264 recommended bitrate AV1/H.265 recommended bitrate
720p30 8 Mbps 6 Mbps
720p60 8 Mbps 6 Mbps
1080p30 14 Mbps 10 Mbps
1080p60 17 Mbps 12 Mbps

These figures are YouTube’s encoder recommendations, not measured broadband speeds or guarantees of uninterrupted delivery. Test your upload connection and leave capacity for normal variation; do not assume a connection that briefly reaches the target will hold it steadily for a continuous broadcast.

Set up OBS and connect the YouTube stream

1. Let OBS assess the computer and connection

  1. Open OBS and choose Tools > Auto-Configuration Wizard. Follow the wizard and select the option for streaming. It uses your hardware and network conditions to suggest a starting configuration; it does not certify that the system can run indefinitely.
  2. Create a scene for the broadcast. Add the media source or sources needed for the playlist, and check that the video displays as intended.
  3. Play a representative section and watch OBS’s audio meters. Confirm that intended audio is present and that there is no unintended silence, clipping or doubled audio.

2. Select YouTube and enter the stream key

  1. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, choose YouTube as the service, select the available server option, and enter the stream key associated with the YouTube broadcast.
  2. Keep the stream key private. Anyone who obtains it may be able to send a stream to your channel. If it is exposed, replace or reset it through YouTube’s live-stream controls and update OBS with the new key.
  3. Before going live, confirm that OBS is using the intended YouTube account and key. A key for a different channel or broadcast will not send the stream to the intended destination.

3. Set output resolution, frame rate and encoding

  1. In OBS, open Settings > Video and set the output resolution and common FPS. If your source is 30 fps or lower, begin at 30 fps rather than converting it to 60 fps without a reason.
  2. Open Settings > Output and configure the streaming encoder, rate control and bitrate. OBS’s available choices depend on the installed version and your hardware. Use CBR and the YouTube recommendation that matches the output resolution, frame rate and codec.
  3. Set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds. If the encoder exposes a different label for this setting, use the equivalent keyframe interval control; do not exceed four seconds for YouTube’s stated guidance.
  4. Apply the settings and inspect a short test for dropped frames, encoder overload, audio problems and visual quality. If the stream is unstable, reduce output demand—such as bitrate, resolution or frame rate—and test again rather than assuming a higher setting is better.

Test before committing to a continuous broadcast

Test for several minutes with representative motion and audio from the playlist. Check both OBS and YouTube’s live controls for stream-health warnings, and confirm the correct video, sound and destination. YouTube recommends running an upload speed test and testing before going live. A brief successful test is useful, but it cannot establish that a computer, connection or power supply will remain available around the clock.

  • Verify the playlist advances as intended and does not stop at the end of a single file.
  • Check audio throughout the test, including transitions between videos and any sections that should be silent.
  • Confirm OBS is not reporting persistent dropped frames or encoder overload.
  • Check YouTube’s stream-health status and verify that the live output appears on the intended channel.
  • Enable and review OBS’s automatic reconnect option in its advanced settings. Reconnect is a recovery aid, not a guarantee of uninterrupted service.

Mark a child-directed playlist accurately

YouTube requires creators to designate content as made for kids or not made for kids, regardless of where the creator is located. Its audience guidance identifies preschool educational content as one factor to consider. If the playlist is deliberately designed for children, it is likely made for kids; make the designation based on the content and intended audience, not on which setting seems more useful. YouTube notes that its guidance is not legal advice.

The designation has practical effects. YouTube disables live chat and chat replay, Super Chat, comments on upcoming streams and archives, and reminder notifications for made-for-kids streams. Personalized ads are disabled, although contextual ads may be shown. Do not plan the broadcast around chat interaction, donations through Super Chat or personalized-ad features when this setting applies.

YouTube’s live-stream eligibility requirements also apply separately from the audience designation: the channel must be verified and must not have had a live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days, and the streamer must be at least 16. YouTube warns about restrictions when 13–15-year-olds appear in a stream without a visibly accompanying adult. This is relevant if a child appears or participates; it is distinct from whether the playlist itself is aimed at children.

Plan separately for a replay and for content rights

A continuous broadcast and a complete replay are different goals. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. A single uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast therefore is not a reliable way to produce a complete YouTube replay.

If preserving the full programme matters, arrange a separate recording or archive workflow and verify it before relying on it. OBS has separate recording options, but recording continuously requires enough storage and a dependable recording process; the storage required depends on the files and recording settings. YouTube also instructs creators to ensure they have the necessary clearances for the live stream and any archive or video on demand. Check that the video, music, images and other playlist material are cleared for both live transmission and retained copies.

India-specific considerations

The YouTube audience-setting requirement applies regardless of location, but the settings above do not establish a special bitrate or OBS configuration for India. Upload capacity and stability vary by connection and location, so measure the connection you will actually use rather than treating a national average or a recommended encoder bitrate as a promise. The available information here does not establish India-specific legal obligations, power reliability or a universal operating requirement for continuous children’s broadcasts. Check authoritative local guidance for jurisdiction-specific questions.

Or let it run in the cloud

If keeping a computer and home connection running is the part you want to avoid, StreamNeo is a cloud option for keeping an uploaded-video playlist live on YouTube. Upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops the uploaded videos from the cloud; it does not stream from a camera.
