YouTube’s current guidance recommends 8,000 kbps video bitrate for this format, with 3,000 kbps as the listed minimum. Start at 8,000 only if a real upload test and preflight show your JioFiber connection can sustain it; a plan’s advertised speed alone is not a guarantee.

These are YouTube’s current encoder recommendations for a 720p30 H.264 ingest stream, accessed in 2026: YouTube encoder settings. The 8 Mbps recommendation is a target, not a guarantee of image quality or connection stability. YouTube’s page also lists H.265 and AV1, but H.264 is the conservative cross-device choice reflected in its guidance.
Set up OBS step by step

Set the video canvas and output
In OBS, open Settings → Video. Set Output (Scaled) Resolution to 1280×720 and Common FPS Values to 30. If your source is a different resolution, OBS may scale it; confirm the output preview and test broadcast look as expected.

Configure streaming output
Open Settings → Output and select Advanced output mode if needed to expose the streaming encoder controls. Under Streaming, choose an H.264 encoder available on your computer. The best hardware or software encoder depends on the system; there is no universal preset established for every PC.

Set Rate Control to CBR, Bitrate to 8000 Kbps if your tested connection has sufficient headroom, and Keyframe Interval to 2 s. YouTube recommends 2 seconds and says not to exceed 4 seconds. If 8 Mbps is unstable, test a lower bitrate while staying at or above 3,000 kbps where possible.

Set audio
In the streaming audio settings, use AAC and 128 Kbps for stereo, YouTube’s listed recommendation. Listen to the test stream for clipping, silence, or an audio/video sync problem.

Choose a secure ingest protocol and connect the key
In Settings → Stream, select YouTube as the service and use RTMPS when available. YouTube describes RTMPS as an encrypted extension of RTMP. Connect OBS to the stream using the stream key from YouTube Studio; treat the key as a password and do not show or share it. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update OBS.

Check SDR color and begin a private test
For standard dynamic range, YouTube specifies Rec. 709 color space and 8-bit depth in its advanced settings. Start a test broadcast before the real event. Include the same kind of motion and audio you expect during the actual stream, then inspect both the OBS status and YouTube’s stream-health feedback.

Will JioFiber upload speed be enough?
It depends on the sustained upload available at broadcast time, not just the plan name. Jio describes JioFiber speeds as symmetric; its plan comparison includes examples of 30, 100 and 150 Mbps upload matching download. Those are plan descriptions, not measurements of an individual subscriber’s connection during a stream. See Jio’s plan comparison.
Before going live, run an upload-speed test under conditions close to the planned broadcast. Account for audio, streaming protocol overhead, other people or devices using the connection, and normal fluctuations. Do not treat a single speed-test result as proof of continuous capacity. YouTube recommends testing upload bitrate and testing the stream before the live event.

- If upload is stable with clear headroom at 8 Mbps, test the stream at 8,000 kbps.
- If the connection or stream-health feedback is unstable, lower the video bitrate and test again, working down toward 3,000 kbps.
- Compare the visual result and stability using representative content. Fast motion and detailed footage can reveal bitrate limits more clearly than a static scene.
There is no evidence-based universal buffer percentage for every JioFiber setup. Wi-Fi conditions, router load, location, plan, and other network traffic vary, so make the decision from your own preflight rather than assuming a fixed margin.

OBS sends one configured ingest stream at the resolution, frame rate, and bitrate you set. YouTube then transcodes that incoming feed into multiple viewer formats. A viewer may receive a different playback rendition depending on YouTube’s processing and the viewer’s device or network; the viewer’s available quality options are not the same thing as your OBS output settings. OBS’s knowledge base describes transcoding as converting a source feed into multiple output feeds and advises staying within the platform’s recommended keyframe interval: OBS streaming guidance.

Troubleshooting an unstable or poor-looking stream

Copyright and YouTube Live readiness
Before streaming, confirm that you have the rights to every video, music track, image, and other material in the broadcast. A live stream can be interrupted or restricted if its content triggers copyright enforcement. Also make sure the channel and planned broadcast meet YouTube’s applicable live-streaming requirements.
