YouTube’s watch-page Loop control only repeats ordinary playback; it does not create a live broadcast. For one video, use OBS Media Source; for a sequence, use VLC Video with VLC installed. The instructions below cover the setup, testing, rights checks, and archive review.
Choose the right kind of loop
A YouTube playback loop repeats a video or playlist for someone watching it on YouTube. It does not send a prerecorded video as a livestream. For a live presentation, an encoder such as OBS must play the file and transmit its output to YouTube Live. See YouTube’s playback loop instructions and encoder setup guide.
One promo video
In OBS, add a Media Source, select the local video file, and enable Loop. OBS restarts the file after it reaches the end. This is the simplest arrangement when the same promo should repeat continuously. OBS Media Sources documentation explains the source options.
A sequence of promos
For multiple videos, install VLC, add a VLC Video source in OBS, arrange the playlist in the intended order, and enable Loop Playlist. The VLC source depends on VLC being installed; without it, use a different supported workflow or a single Media Source instead.

Before setting up the livestream
Get channel access ready
YouTube says live streaming requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time live-stream enablement may take up to 24 hours, so enable and check access well before the scheduled broadcast. See YouTube’s livestream tips and encoder setup guidance.
Prepare the approved creative
- Use the video, graphics, names, offers, and music approved by the franchise and channel owner.
- Check that the video’s aspect ratio and audio work in the intended viewing context.
- Make sure prices, menu items, and promotional terms are accurate for the relevant location and remain valid for the entire broadcast.
- If the audience is Kannada-speaking, use Kannada copy when appropriate and have the franchise confirm spelling, script, local wording, and approved brand terminology. The technical setup does not determine the right Kannada variety or translation.
Set up OBS and connect it to YouTube Live
- Create the scene. In OBS, create a scene for the promo. Add a Media Source for one video and enable Loop, or add a VLC Video source for a playlist and enable Loop Playlist.
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Create or select the livestream and retrieve the stream URL and stream key as directed in YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
- Enter the connection details in OBS. In OBS streaming settings, provide the YouTube server URL and stream key. Treat the stream key like a password: it directs the encoder feed to your event and allows YouTube to accept it. Do not publish or share it.
- Check the preview before broadcasting. Start sending the encoder feed and confirm that YouTube receives the expected video and audio in the Live Control Room. Confirm the event’s visibility and access settings before making it public.
- Start the event and monitor it. Follow the Live Control Room prompts to go live. Keep watch on stream health and the picture and sound while the promo runs.
Choose encoder settings for the actual connection
YouTube recommends RTMP or RTMPS for encoder ingestion and recommends RTMPS for encrypted transport. Its settings guidance lists H.264, H.265, and AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS, recommends constant bitrate (CBR), supports frame rates up to 60 fps, and recommends a two-second keyframe interval—not over four seconds. Do not select a resolution or bitrate just because it is a common preset. Test the available upload speed and choose settings that the connection can sustain; YouTube’s recommended bitrates vary by resolution. Check stream health during a representative test, including footage with the motion and audio levels of the real promo. A wired Ethernet connection may be useful where available, but YouTube’s guidance does not make it a requirement.
Review rights and promotional disclosures
Confirm rights to video and music
The channel operator must have the necessary rights for everything in the broadcast, including music. YouTube’s Livestream Terms and Conditions state: “You represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights for the exploitation of the Live Content on the Google Services throughout the world, including, without limitation, music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses) and any other royalty participants.” Confirm that the licenses cover the actual content, platform, territory, and use; the applicable scope depends on the specific rights and arrangement.

Assess whether paid-promotion disclosure applies
YouTube’s Branded Content Policies apply to livestreams. They describe branded content as content influenced by a brand partner in exchange for something of value. If the franchise arrangement meets that definition, declare paid promotion in Studio and make the disclosure clear and prominent. Whether a particular restaurant’s own promotion qualifies depends on its agreement and exchange of value; confirm that with the franchise or channel owner.
Test, monitor, and handle common problems
Test before the planned broadcast
- Test the upload speed and set stream quality to fit the connection.
- Check the Live Control Room preview, audio, video, and stream health with representative content.
- Verify that the event is accessible as intended on the channel or watch page and on mobile devices.
- Check the local recording or archive when available. YouTube’s livestream tips also suggest testing encoder failover, including an Ethernet-disconnection exercise; this is a test procedure, not a requirement to use Ethernet.
Diagnose likely setup failures

Review the archive and offer after streaming
YouTube’s encoder instructions say streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Review the resulting archive’s visibility—public, unlisted, or private—and check that any displayed offer remains current before leaving the recording available. YouTube’s live stream settings guide covers controls such as stream key, privacy, DVR, and archive settings. The under-12-hour archive behavior is not a guarantee for longer streams.
