If OBS keeps showing the first video, check which source is playing the footage. Use VLC Video for a sequence of multiple files, put them in the intended order, turn off Shuffle Playlist, and use Loop Playlist only if the sequence should restart after its last item. The single-file Media Source has a different Loop setting that repeats one file.
First, identify the OBS source
In the OBS scene being sent to YouTube Live, select the source that supplies the video and open its properties. The controls differ depending on whether it is a Media Source or a VLC Video source; YouTube is the destination, but these playback settings are configured in OBS.
- Media Source: plays a file. Its Loop option repeats that file when playback completes.
- VLC Video: supports a playlist of items, making it the relevant source for playing multiple local videos in sequence.

Set up a playlist to advance through multiple videos
- In the scene used for the broadcast, select the source that should play the videos. Open its properties and confirm it is a VLC Video source, not a single-file Media Source.
- Check that the playlist contains every intended file. Arrange the items in the order you want them played.
- Turn Shuffle Playlist off if the videos need to play in the listed order.
- Choose whether the sequence should stop after its final item or start over. Turn Loop Playlist on to restart the playlist when it runs out of media; leave it off if it should not repeat.
- Apply the changes and watch the OBS preview long enough to confirm the sequence advances as expected before relying on the live output.
If VLC Video is unavailable
VLC Video requires VLC to be installed. OBS also specifies that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. Install the compatible version, then check the source again. The OBS guide documents this prerequisite.

If you only want one video to repeat
Use a Media Source for a single file and enable Loop to replay it after it finishes. This is not the same as Loop Playlist, which applies to the full list in a VLC Video source. The separate Restart playback when source becomes active option restarts the file when the source is in the current scene and visible.
Check whether scene visibility is restarting playback
If playback seems to jump back when you change scenes or hide and show a source, inspect its Visibility Behaviour setting. OBS documents choices that stop and restart playback, pause and resume it, or let it keep playing while the source is not visible. Visibility behavior is separate from playlist looping: it controls what playback does while the source is hidden, not whether a completed playlist starts over.

Test the result and narrow down the cause
- Confirm you changed the source in the scene that is actually on air, rather than a similarly named source elsewhere.
- Check the source type, playlist contents, listed order, and Shuffle Playlist setting.
- Verify that Loop Playlist reflects whether you want the sequence to repeat after its final item.
- Watch the OBS preview after applying the settings. If the sequence still restarts unexpectedly, note the source type, visibility setting, playlist contents, and exact steps that reproduce it.
There is an individual OBS forum report of playback appearing to return to the first video after a media source or VLC playlist was modified during a planned live broadcast. That report does not establish a general OBS defect or explain every repeat. Without the affected source settings and steps to reproduce the behavior, the cause in a particular setup cannot be determined.
