OBS reports what is happening in its own output and on your computer; YouTube reports what it is receiving and how the stream is performing on its platform. A looping video does not, by itself, establish why a health readout is missing.
Check YouTube’s health in Live Control Room
- Open YouTube Studio and select the active live event. Make sure it is the event that OBS is sending to, not another scheduled or completed broadcast.
- Open Live Control Room and inspect Stream health. YouTube identifies Live Control Room as the place to check stream health and analytics while streaming. If YouTube reports a problem, read the accompanying status message and instructions; do not rely on OBS alone to diagnose a platform-side warning. YouTube Help: See your live stream’s metrics.
- Confirm that YouTube is receiving the stream. OBS can indicate that it is sending output while YouTube’s event is not receiving it, or while you are viewing the wrong event. Treat the two screens as separate status layers.
Read OBS’s own output statistics
In OBS, open View → Stats. Note which counters change during the loop. OBS distinguishes network-dropped frames from missed frames caused by rendering lag and skipped frames caused by encoding lag; these are different problems, not interchangeable measures of YouTube stream health. Network-dropped frames are increasing
OBS describes dropped frames as a sign that the connection to the remote server is unstable or cannot keep up with the configured bitrate. Check the connection to the ingest server and whether your stable upload capacity can sustain the bitrate. OBS suggests trying a different server, lowering the bitrate to suit the connection, and reviewing network settings. Lowering bitrate can improve stability, but it also reduces stream quality. Dynamic bitrate may reduce bitrate when the connection cannot keep up; OBS cautions that this does not fix the underlying cause and can reduce quality. OBS Project: Stream Connection Troubleshooting.
Rendering-lag or encoding-lag counters are increasing
These counters identify local rendering or encoding pressure rather than the same connection problem measured by network-dropped frames. The right remedy depends on your computer, OBS version, encoder, and output configuration. Without those details or an OBS log, a specific hardware or encoder change would be guesswork.

Understand YouTube’s status values
YouTube’s Live Streaming API distinguishes whether the platform is receiving data from whether it has health information about the stream. Its documented values include:
- Stream status:
activemeans YouTube is receiving data;inactivemeans it is not. The API also definescreated,ready, anderrorlifecycle states. - Health status:
goodmeans there are no warning-or-worse configuration issues;okmeans there are no error-severity issues;badmeans error-severity issues exist; andnoDatameans YouTube’s backend has no health information for the stream.
noData is a defined YouTube status. It does not, on its own, show that a loop caused the missing health information. These API terms describe YouTube’s states; the Live Control Room is the practical dashboard for checking the active stream. YouTube Live Streaming API: LiveStreams.

Use the symptom to choose the next check

Does the loop itself hide stream health?
The documented status definitions and OBS counters distinguish platform health, incoming data, network delivery, rendering, and encoding. They do not identify loop playback itself as a cause of unavailable health information. To investigate a particular case, establish which loop method is running, which OBS version and output configuration are in use, whether the correct Live Control Room event is open, whether YouTube is receiving data, and the exact status message and counters shown.
